OK, so I drove to a friends house last night in my mum's new car (parents are in Canada at the moment) and parked about a foot back from some bollards in a carpark with CCTV.

Had a laugh and a smoke - went home. The car was touching the bollards when I got back to it and I remember thinking 'wow - I parked a bit too close to them!'

This morning I woke up and noticed that someone has crashed into the back of the car. They didn't leave a note or anything.

I tried to find out from the CCTV who had hit me today, but after about an hour of ringing unhelpful people (including the police) I found out that they are dummy cameras

Anyways... I only have 3rd party insurance so it'll cost me between 500 and 1000 pounds to fix, which is every penny I've managed to save for the Burning Man over the last 6 months.

Don't know why I'm posting this here - maybe I'm just sympathy/hug seeking.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Jo.

Hi Jo! *gives a big hug*

If I could hunt them down and pillage their asses into the Thames I would....

Sorry to hear about it... I too can not go to Burning Man.. but that's because I'm moving back to Canada in July and will need to save my pennies for my time off looking for a job!!!

boooo burning man...

Perhaps one of the big festivals here will have to do for now.

Jo,

Hey babe. I am soo sorry to hear of the disappointment. I know what crap like that can do to the spirit...but....and here is something on that whole silver lining tightrope...

Now you have more than a full year to save for the 2004 one, and BM happens every year...so it isn't a once in a lifetime thing.
So maybe you can save up some extra money and stop in some other places when you come over here (like..oh..I dunno...Niagara Falls region! )

Okay, small solace I know, but I am trying!
Lots of hugs and sympathies to you my friend!

Thanks guys

I'm still gunna burn though. I don't care what it takes I'll be there. I have my plane ticket and my BM ticket already so that's something.

I read in the Black Rock Gazzette last year about a guy who went to the BM with nothing to proove it could be done.

By tuesday he had a bike, a tent, sleeping bag, clothes (yes - he arrived completely naked), and all the food and water he needed for the festival's duration.

the moral of the story is - I'M STILL GOING TO BURNING MAN.

love you all,
Jo.

yup, it's true. He was camped right across from center camp, and people kept bringing him more and more stuff once they heard his story. He really was a neat, sweat guy, and I also gave him some water.

Respect for sticking to still going, no doubt you will have an even better time knowing that it might not have happened.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is burning man?
Normal info needed: What? Where? When? Etc, etc.

Thanks for all your support.

I think nearer the burn we should all arrange a meeting time and place for a spin and a chat etc.

Karen (I assume it's you because of the veggi burritos), sorry to give you a fright. You know I'd still be going even if I had to swim then walk.

For those who haven't been, you should check it out. Muchos fun. Once you've been you'll understand why I spend 11 months of each year working hard and saving in order to blow it all on the BM.

thanks again.

Jo.

PS. don't be surprised if I take you up on your kind offers!...

I think it is an excellent idea to arange a meeting time/place.

One of those rare opportunities to actually meet all the wonderful people who we talk to every day, yet have never seen with our eyes.
