ok, so there's been a million other music threads, but... this is a rock one. Before you say anything, the rock/indie thread turned into indie.
So, because i'm to lazy to look, can some people tell me of some good rock bands. Something similar to tool or just music which has a good, fast drumbeat and takes lots of skill, which isn't too poppy. It'd be great if they still exist as well ubbidea

eek
Thanks biggrin

They went kaput a few years back but Mr Bungle should give ya sumfood for thought. Not much of a drummer myself but they change their styles and time sigs all over the place smile

Pitchshifter could be fun too (also kaputt although I think they are now up to their 4th 'Last Ever Tour') cos even though on CD most of the drumming is programmed they have a drummer proper live. Muchly fast smile

Lamb of God is great.
Amazing drummer, and very much still going.
Fear Factory were always marvelous but havn't done much for a while, check out their album 'Demanufacture'

Down is good for more slower stoner-y stuff. And if you listne to them you should really listen to Phil Anselmo's other bands, firstly PanterA, and the Superjoiint Ritual, for some good hard punk like business.

There was a Mike Patten mention earlier with Mr Bungle. Fantomas is another one he did, which is marvelous and crazy.

If you like TooL im guessing you already checked out 'a perfect circle' Only 2 albums but wonderous stuff.

Ummm, how about Nightwish. Great music and female vocals of the operatic type.
If you want a female singer with big balls check out Arch Enemy. She has giant cohones.
FInally in the female singer bit go and listen to Lacuna Coil.

And Sikth!! Blimey almost forgot them, a wicked band from Watford I think, with two singers, and one of the best drummers I've heard.

Thats enough for now I guess... smile

You gotta have hilarious lyrics in Power Metal! It's all part of the appeal. I remember seeing DragonForce play at the BarFly in Camden last year, and there were people there with plastic swords and viking helmets. Absolute quality! ubblol

Hahaha! That's Awesome! I'm gonna go cry in a dark corner of shame for missing them now...
I did see arch enemy last year in concert. It rocked my world.
Also someone else mentioned listening to Down if your into the slower stoner stuff-If you like that try Corrosion of Conformity. Very southern metal (like pantera), but mellower. I don't know whatever happened to them-used to be big back in the day.......

Not to mention people in full armour suits taking part in the mosh pits and walls of death.

There are some severe horror stories about DragonForce gigs.

And their lyrics suck. In a funny kind of way.

But I concur, DragonForce's lyrics are even worse than Iron Maidens.

Lol, you should hear some of Rhapsody's lyrics. They're even better!:

"Face me evil bastards, smell the hate of angels
Glory, pride and bloodshed
Cowards and beholders, rapers of my wisdom
mix of dust and bones
Go back to your abyss, Algalord will not fall
but your heads will soon roll
Test the blade of heroes, fury of the thunder
hit my golden shield

So we'll fight against the wind for the glory of the kings
to defeat the evil enemies
And we'll ride with our lord for the power and the throne
in the name of holy thunderforce"

ubblol dosn't really do it justice either! You have to say it like: thuuuuuuuuuuunderforce ubblol

Oh dude, I have all the Rhapsody albums up till "Power of the Dragonflame". Class. The Luca Turilli solo stuff as well. "The Ancient Forest of Elves", mint! Best Power Metal album I've ever heard goes to Winterhearts Guild by Sonata Arctica, for being musically blinding and also *mostly* avoiding poor lyrics.

That said, worst lyric ever goes to Maiden, Blaze Bailey era:

"Once he built missiles, a nations defence
Now he can't even give birthday presents"

From Man on the Edge - X Factor.

*cringe* ubblol

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot Hammerfall, with Heeding the Call:

"A flash in the night, a journey through time
the Templars are back on the streets
Guarded by prowess and the will to survive
all led by the guiding light

Angels of mercy, guardians of time
Shackled and chained through the eternal flame
the hammer will slowly arise

Heeding The Call, one and for all
never surrender, with glory we'll fall
Brothers unite, let's stand up and fight
fulfilling our fate, we are
Heeding The Call"

Followed by pseudo-classical widdling guitar solo (that I liked so much I learned how to play). redface wink

My Mind is a Ship
Emotions become the Waves
Soul is the Ocean
