that is an interesting one Ade, but then again did not expect any less from you, gorgeous:)

I know of unwritten rules of politness, like do not interupt somebody s burn etc...

but probably the firedancing community is too young to have those unwritten rules slowly evolve into supersticious rules (that is when you do not quite remember why you are not supposed to do that, but you still respect them)... Provided you agree with the theory that most of them had a logical or historical back ground that made them just rules then (like some religious food taboos for example)... at least that is my opinion

never, ever steal someone's first burn with a new set of wicks...earns you bad mojo

also, never eat mexican food in large quantities right before a show, but if you must, go for the bland stuff like chicken enchiladas

if a black cat crosses your path right before a burn... well, get your karma back in the finest way by making kitty wick

Always remember to look at an imaginary point a million miles away when fire-breathing.

(ie Don't look at the ever so funny thing your m8s are doing, blowback is apainful thing, as are burnt lungs)

I don't know if this qualifies as a superstition but it scares the hell outta me

if you butter your staff it will fall always on the wrong side

fire spinning usually creates black boogies and that is a sign of impotence (WHAT ? no you want me to make sense again )

Thanks Cassandra - I actually was serious with this post (maybe social was the wrong place for it? -mods?)

I think you make a good point Cass about the age of the fire community - superstitions may exist among smaller troupes/groups but not be a part of the fabric that ties us all together - yet....
