How to make the web better for you,
If you haven't already, stop using Internet Explore and get Firefox
www.getfirefox.com

Firefox it's a dream, and while Internet Explorer 7 is the best of the IE it is basically just a poor copy Firefox, and desperately trying to catch up.

For me, the main reason Firefox is good is the extension, with Firefox add-ons you can make this program and the internet look and behave how you want to.
Hate all these adverts? I don't I haven't seen more than 10 in a year with Addblock plus.
I Can't read French very well but want to follow the poi discussion on Jongle.net - use foxlingo.
etc etc

OK, so here is a thread for all the Firefox fans to post about their favorite extensions, and modifications.
Here are my Firefox extensions I couldn't live without:
____________________________________________________________________
Adblock plus https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/
(remember how the web used to look! - removes nearly all adverts from all websites - ahhhh smile)

Stumble upon https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/138/
(there goes your life, you want brilliant websites on subjects you're interested in, here they are smile

Foxlingo https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2444/
(translate toolbar translates almost any web page to almost any languages while keeping the formatting biggrin )

Customise google: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/743/
make Google like it used to be - useful, rather than all paid and commercial results at the top.
Essentially the first 2 and all the side results in Google are paid adverts, hence it is not giving you the best results, it give the results which have the most interest in making some money out of you... hmm, with the customize Google add in, you turn off all the adverts! Google how it was back when it used to be useful for finding things on the web rather than for viewing adverts

British English dictionary (for built in spell checker)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3366/
Or American English dictionary (for built in spell checker)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3497/

and Noscript https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/
(Disables javascript -Good security for when you're browsing in the dark corners of the web)

Web developer toolbar (for coders only)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/60/
________________________________________________________________

Thread is following Yakumos suggestion in this thread:
[Old link]

So what Add ons/ browsers are you guys using?
Firefox - the Fire spinners browser biggrin

Jscript doesn't work properly in browsers other than IE because it's MS's proprietary version of JavaScript.

I'm guessing they don't have the internet at Microsoft, because the W3C specs for DOM are all there, but MS's programmers make it up as they go along.

Can't find a single bit of code in the page that's supposed to forward you back to the forums, that would actually do it. No JavaScript, no linked to JavaScript, and no META REFRESH. Could be something is removing the code as the page comes into FF, because it's something that can be abused.

META REFRESH works in FF (although W3C has made it depreciated). I use it for this.

I may come up with a Greasemonkey script to put meta refresh into HoP pages that say "you will be forwarded" so they work properly.

You aren't thinking or really existing unless you're willing to risk even your own sanity in the judgment of your existence.

I'm not going to be drawn into a discourse into platform-independent Jscript coding bset practices and/or MS bashing.

The animated icons on HOP also sometimes dont work.

Web of Trust. A useful little plugin that allows users to rate websites on trustworthiness and other such useful stuff. Good if you want to protect yourself from spam and fraud etc etc.

Where I work the computers all run on internet explorer (internet exploder) and one of my coworkers showed me this site, as we both prefer FireFox (who doesn't??)

at www.portableapps.com you can download FireFox onto a thumb drive and take it with you to run it anywhere.

There's a LOT of other apps available. I got a video editing program, for example. Dare I say it, my flash drive has been pimped.

(I believe "Dare I say it, my flash drive has been pimped" actually belongs on the "if you know what I mean..." thread)

Just need to get some of my extensions to work with it again.

Anyone else noticed that firefox is becomming more buggy now, nothing specific just unexplained crashes becomming more frequent. Really starting to annoy me now, so much so that I am seriously considering returing to Explorer, much as I hate it.

Just upgraded to FF3 and finding the same problems, have seen similar / same problems on an unrelated machine, running Xp here and 2000 on other, it seems restricted to certain sites namely facebook, and a couple of forums, otherwise seems ok. I am now looking towards Safari though.

We've got it running quite happily on 2 Vista machines, several XP machines and a MacBook Pro thats running Leopard. I'm pretty sure that Simta is running it with no problems on Ubuntu too.

Only issue I've had is the Skype plugin breaking google maps. That was a 3rd party plugin issue though, not a core problem.

I think its a bit annoying that you can only change some of the preferences by writing a javascript file and dumping it into the program folder. I suppose it is a safety feature so that everyday users cant break it, but still...

Marco - whats the problem that you are having?
