Posted:How to make the web better for you,
If you haven't already, stop using Internet Explore and get Firefox
www.getfirefox.com

Firefox it's a dream, and while Internet Explorer 7 is the best of the IE it is basically just a poor copy Firefox, and desperately trying to catch up.

For me, the main reason Firefox is good is the extension, with Firefox add-ons you can make this program and the internet look and behave how you want to.
Hate all these adverts? I don't I haven't seen more than 10 in a year with Addblock plus.
I Can't read French very well but want to follow the poi discussion on Jongle.net - use foxlingo.
etc etc

OK, so here is a thread for all the Firefox fans to post about their favorite extensions, and modifications.
Here are my Firefox extensions I couldn't live without:
____________________________________________________________________
Adblock plus https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/
br>(remember how the web used to look! - removes nearly all adverts from all websites - ahhhh smile)

Stumble upon https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/138/
br>(there goes your life, you want brilliant websites on subjects you're interested in, here they are smile

Foxlingo https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2444/
br>(translate toolbar translates almost any web page to almost any languages while keeping the formatting biggrin )

Customise google: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/743/
br>make Google like it used to be - useful, rather than all paid and commercial results at the top.
Essentially the first 2 and all the side results in Google are paid adverts, hence it is not giving you the best results, it give the results which have the most interest in making some money out of you... hmm, with the customize Google add in, you turn off all the adverts! Google how it was back when it used to be useful for finding things on the web rather than for viewing adverts

British English dictionary (for built in spell checker)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3366/
br>Or American English dictionary (for built in spell checker)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3497/
br>
and Noscript https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/
br>(Disables javascript -Good security for when you're browsing in the dark corners of the web)

Web developer toolbar (for coders only)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/60/
br>________________________________________________________________

Thread is following Yakumos suggestion in this thread:
http://www.homeofpoi.com/ubbthreads/show...rt/1#Post750664
br>
So what Add ons/ browsers are you guys using?
Firefox - the Fire spinners browser biggrin

The 3rd one down looks like a cow that is part of the cow parade. I saw loads in Prague 2 years ago. I guess about 200 cows blank fibreglass were given to local artists to paint in anyway they saw fit. Then they were put around the city in random places for the summer. It was really fun seeing what people had done!

This is 'Misteake' wink

Posted:The computers in uni are still using IE6. I am tempted to see if I could download and run FF2 instead. No search box and no tabs! Sucks so much its unbelievable! frown And why is IE7 still using the old XP super bright "fisher-price pre-school learning set" colour-scheme? I thought MS would want to tone it down to match the new Aero style?

Posted:I had to stop using IE because of a severe overloading of pop-ups. I haven't had any trouble with FireFox. I don't have my own website, though, and that seems to be a sticking point.

Another really fun add-on for FF (which I just learned you can get for IE, too, for the dissenters) is Stumble. It's a free download, you fill out a list of topics you're interested in, and you get a Stumble toolbar. When you hit the Stumble button, it takes you randomly to a highly rated website related to something you're interested in. I've found some amazing art and photography, also some really really funny stuff. It's all the stuff on the internet you wanted to find but didn't know how to search for. An awesome way to waste time. wink

Me thinks it's a vista problem not a FF problem

Majestic: I reckon Ubuntu is already better than vista,
all it really needs is adobe software.
so in 18 months... we can but pray!

It boots olderversions of photoshop, but no one recommends that you seriously try to run it. (i think)
No news of good support for others - indesign and illustrator.
and anyway, the software that ties me to windows is solidworks 3D CAD software...
But hang on, I've got all the windows DLL's on this machine (xp dual boot)

Posted:As much as I love FF, it's an absolute PIG for resources. Or it may have something to do with Gmail as well. But I can't use FF any more. Too many times is it taking up >120mb of ram (typically ~200mb) and up to 50% of the CPU. IE7 works fine, but it's IE.
If anyone can help me resolve this resources issue, please do! I hate having to use IE frown

Posted:it always works in exploder.

sometimes i write some client side code in Jscript that works in exploder and doesn't in FFox cus the DOM gets called differently in IE (as NAME="UniqueID") than it does in FFox (as ID="UniqueID")
malcolm's a haxor tho, and meanwhile FFox users can use IE Tab extension for FFox.

someone set us up the bomb!!!
