Because I see a lot of people asking for this and wasn't able to find anything definitive heres my best shot.
Isolating essentially means moving the centre of the circle to a point on the string (whereas normally, it is your hand)
To do this you move your hand in a circle with the poi so it makes a smaller circle. In a full isolation (both poi isolating together in split time) the strings will always be parallell and will seem to float
So essentially your hand is moving in the same circle as the opposite poi head
Keep in mind this is only for what we call a full isolation, any move can be isolated, and this is done by moving your hands in circles, in any weave isolation I have ever seen the strings will always be parallell for longer than normal

I'll try to get a video of the compound full isolation soon

How do you get into and out of the isolations, and are there different ways to do it?
I think there are but I am too tired to write hug

PS: And I think people are going to recommend you to do a search but imho its always an interesting toppic ubbrollsmile

Don't you know you can't link to a search result?

You can actually do a trick of hitting 'threaded' and then 'flat' to get the real URL.

[Old link]

Unless you did mean to link to your search of every time you said isolation.

But that would be REALLY pretentious. wink

Yes it did come up with other topics, but from what I read (which was admittedly rushed) I didn't see a really comprehensive defenition
I'm not sure what you mean getting in/out of them, you start, or stop moving your hand in a circle instead of just spinning the poi normally

Finally got around to getting vids of isolations, and a few other moves that I really like that it really helps to be able to see over and over (5bt slide, showstopper, splittime ttn, and an air wrap)

The "showstopper" eh?
Is that like setting light to your trousers? Or just running out of fuel? wink

We've generally got our own show stoppers here.

When the cops show up, take a bow and go home.

or where ever else they want to take you on that fateful night

I'll get there too late if I shorten my stride, I'll get there too soon if I find me a ride, I'll never move forward if I try to hide this path that I've troden one step at a time.

Hey Jay. *cheers*

Hahaha,... showstopper..
Jeremy is the only guy I've seen who can pull that off.

K.. get this... he gets into a btb reverse weave, then isolated... in mid isolation, both ends are caught (right poi with left hand, left with right) and while still behind the back, swings one hand around and pulls this ridiculously cool liquid move around his head, and throws the poi back out into a 3 beat.

I've never seen anyone else do that.

They're just circles.. anything's possible

lol that was a really cool movie, im getting to be better at poi than all my friends, so theres nowhere to see coll poi besides vids here or massives, now i have so many ideas for moves, like orbitals from bicep/wrist wraps, wrapping two strings on one arm and making them do a small butterfly around the wrist and pulling an orbital...

kutulu you should make some sockpoi, those hop glowballs suck for weight (got some last year, they were my favourites for a while, but no longer smile ), they're far to light for decent iso's and you can't see the cord well enough for the pattern to be nice.

you're "5 beat slide" is pretty much the movement you want for 5 beat iso weave, but i'd be very impressed if you could make it with such light poi.

/me working on an nice iso vid atm..

Any move is hard when you can't do it yet, I could do it, and therefore it was hard, so I stood there for an hour until it worked, and therefore wasn't hard anymore

Nope, just practice
theyre stupidly easy, just like everything else, once you understand how they work
they have a very recognizable "feel" when you do them

Yakumo, I missed your post somehow... Those actually aren't from HOP
I made them from scratch with a soft pvc plastic ball with a 3 LED unit inside of it that I bought from Home Depot (Bastards dont sell them anymore), Rope swivels and UV reactive nylon rope... the weight is beautiful, I've tried lots and lots of other poi and I dont like anything else, although I do really want a good set of sock poi
