i've just finished watching the new film stranger than fiction (Absolutely Fantastic BTW), and i find myself reading the official nintendo magazine forums. sad yes, but needed.

for about a good year and a bit i've been waiting for the new gaming system from nintendo.

and its finally here, the nintendo wii....if anyone doesnt know what i'm talking about just go into your local game or gamestation and buy one of these right now.

www.wii.com

its too early to write anything with any meaning here, but i will check up here later, after an exhausting game of wii sports biggrin

anyone else as geeky as me?

there's a VERY nasty issues with ps3 backwards compatibility coming out atm :

games with non standard texture buffers are getting seriously jaggy graphics (far worse than the ps2)

Ah god damn!

Sony are so lame with their "lets flip our customers over and give 'em a good bugggering".

Still, I already have a ps2, so its not like its going to bother me that much. But still, it would be nice if Sony at least made the effort.

Hmmmm.... Motion sensitive controllers?

Wii Poi!

indeed!! nintendo just gave us electronic motion sensors in the shape of poi and noone seems to be making a fuss about it?! oh.. this is in 'social'. ubbloco

does anyone who has laid hands on one of these know if the nunchuku configuration is strong enough to use as poi? ie - can you safely wrap and/or tangle it without worrying about the ends flying off?

er, lol, well beth and hyperlight and I discussed a few poi/meteor ideas briefly, but the wii we were playing on not being ours we weren't tempted to actually test it out.

the hardware would be solid enough unless you impact it, but the cables would be overtwisted and start to deteriorate internally and lose signal after not too long.

66 hours, Zelda's all over

ah well, was a good week to otherwise right off completely, looking forward to new years...

heh, there was a 'Nate Bihldorff' who worked on localization, do all nates not know it's an 'MC' ? smile

HAHAHAHAHA

so is that all over as in the storyline is all over or you have collected every heartpiece helped every goldplated man searching for scattered pieces of his soul etc

66 hours, hmm i wonder if that makes it the worlds longest video game EVER......i think we can safely say it does

and yakumo you're a man like me, obsessed with everything japanese, there's enough references and interesitng japanese things in red steel to make you get funky in your pants before i can say madeleine peyroux is [censored] awesome

oh and its got some spankingly brilliant gameplay aswell

I was short 6 poe's as I couldn't be assed to backtrack at night to every spot to check were I'd missed some (after completing the cave of ordeals).

I think I was short either 1, or 6 heart pieces too, depending on the what the max's hearts were. (I might check tomorrow when sober)

I decided I'd rather just complete it and get on with other (non gaming) things than worry about the rest before I started on the last 2 dungeons.

I'll tell Zandev you think the reviews weren't fair, I'd certainly be interested to try red steal but I'm not going to be buying anything.

Definitely not the longest game ever, most final fantasy games take around 70 hours without every single sidequest, the dungeon seige games were around that too.

Yeah, I logged over 200 hours on the original "pokemon" - course, most of that was collecting everything and leveling so I could beat my friend's butts.

Wii's and DS are sold out everywhere - they're one of the "must have" items for this christmas in the US. I got a tip they were getting some Wiis in toys r us the 22, but it turns out they got it the 21st and the stupid stock boys decided to put it out and not wait till morning of the 22nd. The result? a stampede of people who took like 30 machines in 5 minutes.

66 hours isn't that long for a game... final fantasy VII was about 70 hours long, but most of that was reading the storyline and battling underwater weapon ubblol

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

i found the three final fantasy games that i played (8,9, and 10) to be ALOT shorter than 70 hours

thinki completed 8 in 50ish, i know a friend who did it quite fast

and wasnt 9 shorter than 8 with 10 being only slightly longer

plus final fantasy games are made to look like pigeon poo on my shoe when compared to zelda

and mynci 70 hours is a very long time if you think about it

almost 3 days ubblol

FF8,9 and 10 were all crap compared to 7 wink that was the daddy ubblol

I do think zelda will be better though, but still 3 days to complete a game thats only a week or 2 of dedicated play, I do like games that can extend beyond that, that's why I prefer games with a multiplayer option, you get yer moneies worth for sure.

VII was teh bomb. VIII rocked hard to.

VIII took me a good 24 hours. Not really all that much of an RPG, but deeply enjoyable, none the less. VII took me far longer though

Zelda is a lot of fun, but not overly challenging. That's the thing with kids games I guess, one of the reasons why I like Lego Star Wars so much is it had lots for the grownups to get up to as well.
