You don't need sock poi...but they are the best from intermediate moves...

For isolations, I think a heavier poi head is easier to get the feel of, but wraps don't require anything, just hit your arm with the string & pull it off again (a little more to it but you'll pick it up if you keep trying)

i found socks easier to learn with as they give more bounce. this seems to help alot. chains are more difficult but get easier over time.

I've never had much trouble doing wraps with my fire poi-- just make sure you're wearing appropriate clothes. And I'm not cool enough to do isolations so...

i agree that socks are easier, but i play with tails and it just takes practice with the tails, the cord is not the issue just the tail

I find everything is easier with socks (in life and with poi - socks just help) - Especially isolations.

you don't NEED socks to do isolations and wraps. though they're easier with socks than with chains. however, you'll need to learn them with chains at some point,
unless,of course, you want to spin socks forever

I'll get there too late if I shorten my stride, I'll get there too soon if I find me a ride, I'll never move forward if I try to hide this path that I've troden one step at a time.

I'd been trying air wraps with socks for weeks and weeks, and never thought it would click.

it could have been circumstance, or the lack of friction, but when I picked up my fire poi (unlit) to try it just totally worked straight off.

smooth friction free cone poi would probably be the easiest to learn on for that though imo. Strings the worst.

It could have been the added weight that fire poi have. I found I couldn't learn hyperloops wiith my socks until I stuck an extra juggling ball in each of them. That helps.

Anyway. back to normal wraps, I reckon socks are the best to learn with, not least because they'll hurt less if you cock up. I call for witnesses from all those who've hit themselves on the fingers/elbows with fire poi

but if they were friction free, wouldn't it be impossible to get them to tangle at all - surely they'd just slide off each other...?

Is there any real benefit to spinning with socks? I've always used chains, with wooden blocks on til I got my fireheads now I practice with practice heads (that way when I spin fire I don't have to adjust for diff weight grip etc).

Is there anything that's much easier to do with socks?

if you want to perform with fire only, then i guess spinning with only chains might help - for a while. But i find socks are soooo much easier to learn new tricks with, and then transferring to chai8ns isw so much of a smaller step than learning straight to chains.

I might try em, I've spun with glowsticks & glo balls aswell as chains but it's the lack of fingerloops I can't cope with, I get tangled up on my hands.

socks rock..

and they rapidly put you off finger loops tbh, they're so limiting..
