Little update for you all (thought I'd start a new thread as the last one was getting a bit big!!). I've been a busy bee tonight and I now have 4 pairs of the MK4 (dare I say final?) boards soldered together... now to get something to put 'em in ready for Synergy!

Fear not; when they go on sale it I intend to make sales world-wide from the word go smile

The challenge for the next few days will be to make some housings for these things that will keep them safe but still allow access to the switches and so that you can still open them up to change batteries...

Getting back on topic a bit. I've decided Focus Do-it-all sample paint tins are definitely not spinner friendly prototype housings... so I've found something a little less harsh:

Yeah, but with LEDs that reach up to 70 degrees, I don't think it would stay inside the tubs for long! wink

I made a breakthrough today - HyperLights can now be reporgrammed without the need for external hardware. You can just plug them into the USB socket, load your software up, change the sequences, hit go, un-plug and start spinning biggrin

Woohoo!!!

[Edit] I just finished programming the 8 boards and they all work.. now to make some housings for them smile {/Edit]

can i make a suggestion

If so here it is

Dont use a soft material that has a hard plug to house the batterys or anything like that because the plug push's in and breaks it all up

You can most definitely make a suggestion! That's why HyperLights are as they are today... because people keep suggesting things and I keep pestering them with new ideas smile

I'm not sure I understand what you mean? Hard plug?

They will be made from injection molded polycarbonate which is one of the most impact resistant plastics you can get. The design is 95% complete and really just needs tidying up in a few places and to get checked by the manufacturers!

Does that answer your question?

what i ment is some poi/juggling balls have a soft shell then a plug which to turn on u twist but the soft to hard joint is a weak point so they break there real easy

they look awesome. how much are you selling these baby's for and are they rechargeable or use AA batteries?

I had an idea earlier today with homemade leds for spinning. If the only thing you can get hold of for a casing is too hard and you fear it may shatter if they smack together you could try coating the outside of the toy with a hot glue gun about 3cm thick. I'm hoping this will protect the leds as well as diffuse the light a bit and give the leds a softer glow.

Mike: No need to worry then. The outer casings will be rock solid and turning them on/off will be done via button presses.

Yakumo: Ta smile I was up until some ungodly hour this morning building new housings. I now have two pairs working (touch wood!). I'll try and get the button pressing working this afternoon, although I'm not overly optimistic on that front! Either way, I should just be able to send updated code to you across the web ...and yes, that means that one of these pairs is for your very own beta-testing pleasure (yourself, Sym and Chutney will be the lucky winners for the first three pairs of final-prototypes) biggrin

Dj: Not sure on the price yet; there's still a lot of things to be worked out!

I'm not too worried about them shattering - 3mm thick polycarbonate is very strong!

I just hope it won't be to many months before I can get my hands on a pair myself cuz i'm buying a pair the moment they become avaliable for us peeps around the world..

It's just fantastic seeing the project coming to closing. I'll be waiting impatiently.

Best of luck!

Just in case anyone wondered, Jon's mk4's are awesome =)

As he said on Friday, it was great seeing peoples faces light up even as you walked around holding them let alone spinning.

the brylcreem cases worked pretty well, but I can't wait for the final parts smile

I really loved gayles socks, in general very impressed, but also especially after the old ripstop plasticy stuff.

jon assured me the switch will be working real soon too, should be simple, but sooooo useful, he really worked himself over making sure he'd be able to bring some to synergy, he really is a star!
