I was struck yesterday by just how great the poi community can be - I was in Bristol up on the green, teaching my friend some of the basics, when three people turn up and ask whether they could spin with us - and within moments, there's a small poi party up on the hill. Upon seeing that I was having difficulty with wrist-stop transitions using tails (it was windy and they kept tangling) I was offered some socks to use instead. 10 minutes later it was all over and done and the three left, but it was great to meet people, however briefly in a city 150 miles from home just by spinning in a park.

Just thought I'd share that with you all cool Anyone else had similar experiences?

And also, if anyone happens to be one of those three people...can you tell me about the Circus soc at Bristol from which you had come? I'm applying for medicine there next year and it'd be nice to know something about the scale of the group etc smile

It's such a lovely way to meet people isn't it!
Whenever I see people spinning I usually go up and say hello and join in with a spin. Brief encounter of the poi kind kickass! biggrin

dont think i was one of those people but circus sock in bristol happens once a week on a sunday afternoon just after lunch time. it is generally a laid back affair, probably about 20 - 30 people coming regulary at the momnet. we meet in a big hall in the studnet union.

and i know what you mean about experiences like that, one of the reasons i love poi and juggling so much. anyway, take it easy, see you on a sunday afternoon at some point. biggrin

I live in the west USA, and this summer my boyfriend and I went to Europe. One afternoon in London we went to go see a movie and had an hour or two to kill. We grabbed a bench in a nearby park and started people-watching, and to my glee I spotted a couple people spinning. And it was almost like your experience-- gradually more people joined them, I think they got up to 6 or 8 people and then dwindled down. I really wish I'd gone over to spin with them too... I think I wussed out and didn't want to own up to being American.
