We've all seen this sketch. [Or if you prefer reading it.]
Somehow, since the advent of the internet it has so much more meaning.
Everyone just stopping in during their coffee breaks to type a "connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition" and, of course, be contrary.
I generally get something out our discussions here. Mostly just enjoying speaking with some people over the age of 15. I don't think I've ever really had to defend my belief system in words before the HoP Social Discussion Forum. I think it's important to be challenged on your beliefs if only to solidify what they actually are.
If this was 'chat' we could degrade into a silly pythonlike arguement but I thought I'd post it in Discussion since this is really the place where you all pop in for your daily arguement.

I'm going black hat on this one and voicing my skepticism on the viability of the whole six hats format in online discussion. I'd think differently if we were all working toward some common goal ( other than time killing
) , but in discussion at least, we're not It would have been a great format to try in Poi Moves a few years ago.
Has anybody noticed weasel words as being a problem in here? I haven't

doh, its not that one person has a particular hat,
All people have all hats.
The chair says things like, Ok, lets have some green hat thinking on this one.
and ok, end of the green hat, time for blue hat etc
the chair chooses when and what to shift to.
In the 6 hats model, participants recieve Kudos and therefore reward, for impartial contribution, not for standing their ground and arguing.
eg, on a white hat, it's for gathering and well presenting good impartial data.
not for presenting data which supports their bias.
The alternative is the current hop model/structure for debates. Something like this I think:
A person says something
Someone else disagrees
A person miss-understands what someone said, often because someone didn't take care over what they wrote.
Big raging argument
then the realise they were all saying the same thing all along.
shake hands and make up,
and it all fizzles out with no conclusion and no one changing their minds, no vote nothing. and maybe you've learnt a few things, but it wasn't the best of processes
What I guess I'm proposing that we try a different structure?
