I've searched the interweb but it seems I'm in need of the one thing you can't find on it!

Since I'm about as artistic as a slice of bread and want a smurf hat for our belated work halloween party, I was looking for some pattern for it. Can anyone help? Advice, patterns etc will be very welcome! Otherwise I'll just have to rely on the blue bodypaint...

It's called a phrygian cap. Find out more here:

And get a pattern here:

Actually, you might be able to pick up an old felt hat (a Fez or Trilby) and use steam (to stretch), hot water (to shrink) and an iron (to shape) it in to shape. You can change the shape of felt quite a lot that way, and I think it would work smile

Sym, I'm getting more and more impressed by your practical knowledge. Seriously

I'm sure there are many other things that, but one reason is that I have been dressing up as a Tudor for the last 15 years, making my own costumes. You just pick things up, I guess smile

so i have a hat that was in a bag while traveling and of course got all fuffled out of shape. the top has seemed to come back to being almost good... but the brim is still a lil bent and makes it look silly.. are you saying i could just iron it?? eek

and all this time i could have been wearing my favorite hat!

thanks sym! ill love you forever. (in a platonic kinda way)

if its the hat im thinking ant, you may be able to fix it with kettle. using the steam to soften the fibres, bending it into shape, then fixing it up.

that what i do for my black hats anyway smile

cheers, pete hug

Yes, a kettle is good, but a steam iron can be good as well
