so you got fairy wings...how does one go about spinning with them on
they are rather large and i keep hitting them
any suggestions
any other topics hit on this already?

stay the wall plane in front of you. I've never spun with wings, but that's my guess
I'll get there too late if I shorten my stride, I'll get there too soon if I find me a ride, I'll never move forward if I try to hide this path that I've troden one step at a time.

i really dont advise spinning fire in wings.
They tend to be made of nylon, but even if they arnt its not very safe to have stuff sticking out that the poi can catch on.

err, you could try stuff with planes that don't cross where your wings are. e.g. angle your weaves quite wide, do buzzsaw, between the legs stuff (maybe), over the head stuff, flowers might work.....
I've never worn wings so I wouldn't really know. Just experiment I guess

Shorten your poi so they cant reach your wings and dont do any moves which would go behind your back.
Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.

Y'know what? When I figure out how to spin right with my yarn hair-extensions (*for non-fire-spinning) I'll let you know. I've been having issues doing 360 weaves because of my long yarn extensions getting snagged in the weave.
.... *cries* my poor, poor, poor, yarn that has earned me the title Good Ol' Yarn for Hair.

Hey there Faith!
I've played with poi in wings a few times (no fire of course! wouldn't want to hurt my lovelies!
)if they're rather large as you say, similar to these wings.. it does limit what you can do, but that doesn't mean you can't do anything at all
I find that with mine, I can actually do a btb scoop (like a reel, but only one side at a time) outside the wings - because they're relatively flat at the back. As Icon suggested, shortening the poi works well so they don't get tangled doing other movements..
but tails are lovely for flowy movements of course! as jaero said, wall plane (front) is your best bet - you could try some..
- butterflies and ttn variations (nice to combine with stalls in all directions) try opening out your butterflies, stalling, changing direction.
- fountains (keep them tight)
- wall plane flowers (parallel, same time) i like anti-spinning them too.
as for the tails not matching your wings.. not a huge problem, (i'm a purple fairy but have orange/yellow tail poi).. sometimes contrasting colours might be even better! but that's up to you

Lately, I've taken to poncing about with pendulums, that is, simply swinging the poi rather than spinning them ( see Yuta's video for inspiration ). Now I'm not a wing wearing kinda guy, but I can't see why these wouldn't work. You'll figure out how to move from wallplane to wheelplane, same time to split time.
Maybe try playing extensions in the horizontal plane too, which will allow you lots of room for turning
