I was talking about this with a friend the other night, so thought I would use it as my very first start of a thread on HOP! Here's the topic:

If you could only ask three questions to a potential significant other to determine if she/he is "the one" for you, what would those questions be?

Mine are:
1. Do you like to dance?
2. Do you like to read?
3. Would you be willing to go to Burning Man?

I haven't met anyone lately who I would want to ask these questions to, but now I have them ready!

My questions would be:

1. What is the funniest joke you know? (So I can be prepared for the joke I am going to be sick of in 3 weeks time)
2. What is the quality you value most in yourself?
3. What is the one thing I shouldn't ask you?

It was a day for screaming at inanimate objects.

What this calls for is a special mix of psychology and extreme violence...

Just jokes.....

Can I touch those?
Do you want to watch me play PS2?
How does pizza sound?

Hmmmm, I'm not doing much better there....

On a serious note, I'd ask:
Do you prefer live music or seeing bands?

What are your thoughts on children and how to raise them (or do you even WANT to have them)?

Are you independant (ie able to survive without constant attention/time together - still being able to spend time apart pursuing personal interest/goals)?

Who are you? Who slips into my robot body and whispers to my ghost?

PWB..Yes, Yes and welllll...sure.

I think I asked you the weekend we met, PWB...
Why me?
You really want my number? How about my email instead.
And What the hell do you think you are doing?!?!!?

Berzerker, you crack me up!

Ummmm....

1) What are you passionate about?

2) What is your greatest accomplishment as it applies to your goals in life?

3) In relation to other people, what is the greatest lesson you have learned in life thusfar?

Although the urge to ask "What do you look like in the morning?" was a really close runner up!

1 tells me that they have something else to focus on and a conviction to bring to a togetherness. It also lets me know if their interests are compatible with mine.

2 tells me if they are focussed and driven, or a layabout.

3 tells me about how they relate to others and whether or not they are optimistic or pessimistic overall.

Sneaky, aye?

Hmm, will have to answer this seriously, since it's been on my mind as of late

1. Do you mind world travel, not being stuck in one location, and maybe not settling down until we're just too old to move around?

2. What is your greatest passion/ambition in life?

3. Can you support the person you're with no matter what?

But on a slighty more serious note:

1. What do kind of music do you like?
2. What do you see as your strongest feature?
3.
a. Where are my pants?
b. Could you do my a favour and not file a restraining order against me?
c. Would you like fries with that?

Ok, had a little more of a think about this one and thought of 3 potential questions:

1) What does your soul feel?
2) What gives you joy?
3) What's your attitude to ice cream?

Surprised nobody asked about ice cream before, as I see ice cream as a very important part of a relationship.

However I think the answers alone wouldn't be enough. I fall for how people 'are' and the energy they give off. It has to be just right, and that's rare. Personal differences can be worked around, but the energies have to complement each other.

Well, my "3 minute dating" has been postponed til next month but I think in 3 minutes I'll only get about three questions in so this is a very real predicament!

1) What do you do for fun?
(This one's the most important. Anyone that has "Watches TV" or "go to the gym" loses a point. Anyone that smiles while answering or shows a love for fun in general gains one.)

2) What do you do for a living?
(I hate to say it but I find that important. HOW they answer is far more important than the answer itself. I've got a job that I love that requires a large amount of my energy, which certainly impacts my social calendar!)

3) How far away from me do you live?
(Kidding... sort of... No more long distance relationships for me! [Famous last words] If I can't get a hug on at least a weekly basis, you're out! )

3) [Real answer] Do you want kids?
(Deal breaker for me! I'm nowhere near wanting kids right now. I love children. I work in a school and adore all of my students. And then I go home. I'm not sure if I'll ever want kids. As one starts to get older, it becomes a bigger issue to prospective dates...)

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

On the drive home I was thinking about this one.

I think the three questions you'd pick would actually say quite a bit about yourself. If you were asked those three questions, your answers would be pretty expessive of who YOU were.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

NYC-

I hadn't thought about using this idea in a 3 minute dating situation. Hopefully this got you thinking so that you will be prepared next month!

I just thought of a 4th question for myself... What makes you laugh?

Sense of humor is super important to me. Hmmm but now I will have to erase one of my other questions!

1.) Are you happy with yourself? (nobody can be hapy with you unless you are first)

2.) Can you put the smack down when you need to? (i need to be kept in line at times, and none of this "keep it inside for a month and then turn into a vengeful fang-beast on me)

3.) Do you respect my fire arts?

here are my three:

1) In what ways do you act on the most important values in your life? It is fine to intellectualize about beautiful and important values, but how do you integrate this into your life.

2) What do you need in your life to be in a balanced state of happiness?

3) What qualities will you bring to the relationship, both positive and negative (subjective yes), and do you believe that you can live the dream of your relationship?

if i had but three q's... my my my of course they would have to be intense questions!!!

'the one' yayai! but i do not believe the answer to any 3 questions will show for sure, but it can definitely show similar core values, and as NYC said, how the question is answered shows just as much as the answer itself.

Wow

I agree with Dio's "Happy with yourself" comment. It took me a while to realize how important it is for someone to be happy with themselves first. I don't want to ever be the only good thing in someone's life.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.
