Is it possible to shorten ballchain? If so, is it difficult? By the way I mean shortening with pliers, not with wraps...

You can cut balls off the end of ball chain. You will need to carefully remove the coupling from the end of the chain before cutting, and attach it to the new last ball when you have done.
Make sure once you have done this that all the links are still strong and that the coupling isn't damaged. If it is, do not spin with it. It's not worth the risk of having a flaming head fly off and hit someone or something and set it on fire.
As you can see HoP does sell chains on their own of varying lengths. So if the cutting down of the chains fails you can order some to the length you want.
