So i've just gotten into the idea of spoken word books.
Right now im dowloading Tao te Tsing on Mp3
Is anybody else interested in this? I reall like the idea of being able to listen to a good book while im in work...

We have spoken word poetry nights, which means they are made up off the head and said in front of an audience.
So to have a book of it would be pointless.
No really, I was lost.
And yes, audio books are great if you can focus on them. I can't. My thoughts tend to drown them out to the point where they are background noise and I miss important stuff. Which means I have to actually sit and listen to them whilst doing nothing else, at which point I should just read.
Crazy stupid I know.
Those links are great and I think I know someone who will be interested in them tremendously.

i like saul williams me.
he's a slam poet turned hip hop mc (tis' a blurry line between those arts anyway).
one of my favourite spoken word poems is mike myer's 'woman', which, like pele has said, doesn't really work unless you've heard it being read:
woman... woe-man... whoooa-man.
she was a thief, you got to belief, she stole my heart and my cat.
betty, judy, josie and those hot pussycats...
they make me horny, on saturday morny...
girls of cartoo-ins will leave me in ruins...
i want to to be betty's barney.
hey jane... get me off this crazy thing...
called love.

I had to explain to my apprentice this morning why spoken word in a book doesn't work.
It just seems....silly...when written out.
Here at our cafe where there is "Art Night" (spoken word and original works on disply) it is required to be freestyle, which is why I said it the way I did...so NYAH!

I'm generally finding though i prefer to read stories from books, but i do like radio plays. I think having just one voice narrating and being characters doesn't really work well in a lot of novels, i'd prefer it if there was a narrator and a seperate voice for each character...

but i can see how my spelling his name right might have confused the issue somewhat so thanks for the 'correction'...
i like this feeling i get from having someone follow me around proving that i'm right - this must be a bit like what galileo would have felt like if he were immortal and had lived to see everyone finally agreeing with just about everything he ever said.
