Posted:Ok, so heres the situation:

Recently i tought someone i know to spin (from never seeing poi before to being confident with fwd/rev weave, butterfly variations etc.)

during this time, he was completely sensible and was really enjoying what he was doing.

now the problem came when he realised that he knew enough to "impress" people with fire, and bought some fire heads.

Now he takes his fire poi everywhere, gets hammered, spins and then hands them (lit) to drunken non spinners, to laugh at how "crap" they are, as well as spinning out in the street.

And yes people are getting burned, and smacking themselves in the face etc.

Now ive got nothing against anyone spinning fire, or drinking and spinning, but this is just plain dangerous.

the problem is that i feel responsible for this, and dont quite know what to do.

Has anyone else been in similar situations?

any suggestions?

best thing's obviously to talk to him, then at very least you know you've tried and it's not so much on your shoulders anymore.
or take him along to some gatherng with a bunch of people who are leagues ahead of him, maybe bring him back down to earth?

Seriously though, he is more than welcome at Falmouth, I'm more than happy to tell him off if he breaks the rules,or acts irresponsibly.... smile

But he really does need telling. It doesn't matter how much he doesn't want to hear it, he is acting like an idiot and putting not only himself but other people in danger.

If all else fails though....kill him.

Or try and get him to go to a few gatherings with experienced twirlers and hopefully he will be smart enough to realise the safety measures that dedicated twirlers take.

(AP) A 21-year-old man suffered severe burns to his face and head when he ignited a mortar-style firework that he taped to an old football helmet and placed on his head.

Police say Kaleb Spangler of Bloomington attempted the stunt while drinking at a party along Indiana 46 between Bloomington and Nashville early Saturday morning.

His girlfriend says Spangler decided to duct tape the large firework to the old football helmet. He then put on the helmet and ignited it.

She told police she saw a large flash, then saw Spangler on the ground, unconscious and bleeding from the head. The helmet was destroyed by the blast.

Spangler was taken to Bloomington Hospital, where he was treated for severe burns, lacerations and a concussion.

Posted:**BIG bump**

Well, its finally happened, the first injury. frown

I was at a party with said person, and he was having a spin (as was i) and started letting people (non spinners) have a play.
This went on for a while until a girl (who had only picked them up that day) decided that it cant be that dangerous if all these pissheads are having so much fun.......
so she started to muck about with them, but wasnt really doing anything specific, and he told her she needed to spin faster or it looks crap.
one thing leads to another, and she gets one wrapped round her neck and stuck under the left side of her chin.
obviously she panicked and it took me about 5-6 seconds to grab her and pull it off.

needless to say its a pretty bad burn and alot of burnt hair.
I always wish i had the guts to go and take them off people, but they would only get funny about it. hopefully its been an eye opener, but i doubt it frown
taking a picture of her neck tomorrow, will post it up.

I still think you need to bring him to a meet so we can kick his bum, and teach him how to play responsibly.
