ok smart pants paddy, can you or someone please tell me how my university computter has suddenly become a mind reader, cos you know, its alittle wierd and ITS FREAKING ME OUT. every time it works, it cant be based on probability, there are too many symbols. man this is scarier than david blaine.....
note; im willing to pay good money for the secret seen as i think you are enjoying keeping it from the rest off us.

Ok,

Magnus is right. If your arithmetic is correct, then the program will be correct EVERY time. Use a calculator if you don't believe me.

And no, Paddy, I don't think we should tell them. I'm enjoying watching them squirm...

What I can't figure out (because I suck at math and because I have no formal computer training other than BASIC) is the algorhythm used to set up the initial condition.

What's even more fun - once you've worked it out, you can make your own symbol cards and do it to your friends!

ok ok.

Choose a number AB. Add the digits together, A+B, and subtract those... So that's AB - A - B, right? which is the same as Ax10 - A (eg 73 - 7 - 3 is 70 - 7, do you see?) Once you have followed the instructions, no matter which number between 1 and 100 you have chosen, you can ONLY end up with a multiple of NINE.

Check all the multiples of nine in the grid, they are always the same symbol, and it changes each time to confuse you.

Clever, isn't it.

Oooooh! Ok, I got that no matter what I did, I always got the same symbol on each page (i.e. if I got a book for one calculation on a page, all calculations would give me a book), but I couldn't figure out how they had set it up.

Durbs, I did that with the Mental Magic that Max Mavin and David Copperfield and stuff too.
Supposedly, there is 3% of the population that thinks outside of the "grid"..so for most people when you say...think of a veggie starting with the letter "C" and an animal beginning with the letter "G"...most people think of a carrot and a giraffe. (I took the examples from Max Mavin) I always thought of a cabbage and a gorilla *shrug*.
It's one of the reasons I can't be hypnotised actually.
I also used to get a deck of cards and instead of putting my finger on the screen, I used to do it along with the magician on tv. Freaked my friends out the next day in school. It was fun!

Things like that, mathematical tricks, probability with cards and such actually make really good tricks for your friends.

I love arithmitic when combined when magic. I can actually understand both! Not that I know much about programming but I bet it would be easy to write that in basic. Now throw a calc book at me and I might have to make it magically vanish....

Without further guilding the lily and with no more ado, I bid you farewell and sweet dreams...
