I'm really bad at remembering peoples names and when it comes to film stars I'm even worse. As a kid I used to watch loads of black and white movies with my dad. All the way through the films I would ask him to tell me who each of the stars were. He would smile and then dutifully tell me each one, but you could guarantee that the next time I saw the film or another film with the actors in I would have forgotten the names and ask him all over. How he never tired of this questioning I'll never know ubblol

Well this all brings me to a conversation I had at the EJC about the actor that always played the little toadie characters in the old horror movies of the 30's,40's and 50's. No one could think of his name even though they knew who I meant. Today I stumbled upon him whilst I was looking for something else and it made me smile so much I thought I'd post it here.

Peter Lorre (with Vincent Price).

It drives me crazy sometimes and the harder I try to catch the name the futher it runs away from me. Am I the only one who can't remember names?

when people have conversations, naming actors and which films they were in i attempt to step back and keep away from being included in the conversation. there are very few actors/actresses or any famous person really who i can name and picture in my head.

even now, if someone said, what films did ....(im actually trying to think of a name now ubblol)...... brad pitt star in, i seriously couldnt answer, or it would take me a few hours to come up with one or two. seeing them on-screen is the same, i would look at them, recognise that ive seen them before but could not for the life of me name them!

redface

but i suppose where my memory lacks in that area, its good in others...

Richard Wattis is another actor I constantly forget then name of and usually just refer to him as the Owl Man because I remember him narrating a book that had a character in it called The Owl Man. How odd it is that I can remeber that name but not his real one. ubblol

Bubbles, what's the name of a cr*p 70s or 80s fantasy film, where he has a sword and a shield and goes to rescue a princess?
hug

That was a brilliant guessing game biggrin We should play that again sometime hug

Skully, if it makes you feel any better i wouldn't've remembered Richard Wattis either.
I would've got Peter Lorre however. Which just goes to show that, erm... well it just goes to show that people really should pay for me to go to Ireland next time Miss Furrypurple invites me.... Or something...
wink

I walked past someone the other day and they looked up and knew me by name. Bloody hell. As I stared blankly at him a name bubbled up from 20 years ago. Hey Sean.

Its tucked away somewhere in the Skully. I cant even remember the name of the film to give someone a clue as to who it could be

I've been thinking about this some. And I've realised that it happens to me quite often.
Especially with that guy that plays the corpse in Shallow Grave....British actor... He's in loads of things. You know he was in that one with the stuff and the things.... Him, yes. Keith somebody... He plays a fairy in the listerine adverts...can usually be found at glastonbury wandering round naked - except for wellingtons - at the Stone Circle giving out free coke (ok it happened once. But naked, drug toting famous people stick in my mind... Call me strange if you like...)

Then i have to go through the same list of Keiths. Keith Harris - nope, Keith Moon - no, Keith Chegwin - no, no, in the name that is all good and holy no! Penelope Keith... hmm possibly, but no...

Until I eventually remember that it's Keith Allen

Oh and i used to get Mel Gibson and Kevin Costner confused. because they were both in fairly similar films - i thought - but lots of people seem to disagree with me... People who don't get them confused mainly.

Skully,

Even if you don't remember their names, you're excellent at descibing the characters because we all knew who you meant hug

I can never remember actor's names either and I reliably manage to get it embarassingly wrong if I try rolleyes

Neon Shaolin: I gave up on that game. It's way too addictive. You will have to continue your good work by yourself. Although I can recomend a new game of my own divising, "The One Degrees of Tom Hanks."
Surely he's been in EVERY film?
