Temperature in New York City was about 100F (39C) and humid. More tomorrow.

I can't get the temperature in my apartment below 85F (30C) in spite of 21,000 BTU's of cooling power. It's still 88F (32C) outside so I can't even open the windows to help the machines out.

It's disgusting...

I've really not been having as much trouble with the heat! Your area was colder in the winter, is it hotter in the summer as well? Or do I just give off less body heat and so adjust better to warmer weather? I have turned my ac off two days in a row now because it was too cold! (during the day, admittedly, not at night).

It's official. Our room is the only one in the building where the aircon isn't working properly. An engineer has been in and left with a puzzled expression on his face. Everyone's concentration levels have ooh look, a bee!

I dug out one of these, a few of these, a big piece of cardboard, some duct tape and a craft knife.

I stuck the whole lot in the tiny gap that is my jammed up sash window, and now I have the coolest room in the house.

I guess what works for computers works the same for houses. It's much better than one of those stupid desk fans that just blow the hot air round the room, and although it is a bit noisy I can actually sleep under a duvet it's that cool.

Want to come here? Our air conditioning is pumping along nicely. It's 78 on the first floor, about 84 on the second floor (but cooler in the rooms because we have them closed off) but it's 100 on the third because it is a refinished attic without a/c ducts.
We have a spare, cool room, wireless network, icey drinks and a pool next door. tongue

Yeah lets keep chugging away on yet more energy and keep that global warming on the upturn cuz we think it's a little bit warmer than we'd ideally like. What's a little more pollution per person if we get to be lazy and not deal with a bit of heat rolleyes

Ever heard of a carbon footprint? Oh no sorry, GW swept those under the carpet after he blind sided Kyoto didn't he, what with it meaning the USA would have to start helping the environment instead of being the biggest murderers of it.

Actually WTF am I moaning here for? A new thread approaches me thinks....

Let's relight this forum ubblove

Dunc, you aren't in it. We haven't had any deaths from the heat thank god.

Unfortunately the structure of the city is such that it is DANGEROUS to not have air conditioning. In fact, I've had air conditioners provided by medicaid for families with small children.

I wish the city were built with more buildings that weren't such natural energy wastes (my apartment freezes in the winter and bakes in the summer) but it's not and it's simply not feasable for me to not have an air conditioner. I even have to leave it on when I leave because otherwise my apartment will NEVER be a liveable temperature.

Food's going bad, we're getting heat and dehydration admissions to the emergency room, and you're asking us to stop using A/C?

You move here and go first.
