It is a shame for the child that he has been turned into a media circus prop.
While it may be a rarity and rather unsual I feel it is wrong that his parents have allowed such attention around a baby so young, regardless of any unusualities there may be with him.
I hope that they can do their best to allow him to lead a full and happy life though smile

So is he blessed or cursed

I think a little bit of blessed, but a lot more of cursed.

As far as I could make out from that article, neither of his left arms work particularly well, so they're unlikely to be that useful.
However, they give lots of fuel for both the media circus surrounding him and for the horrible people who I'm sure will try to make him feel like a freak at some point in his life frown.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I know i'm going to get quite a bit of backlash for this but i'm going to take my chance. spank

I do believe its a tragedy when these things happen. Even more so in China!!

Here the contreversial bit so if your easily offended DONT READ ON! Youve been warned. biggrin

Seeing as your only allowed 1 child in china wouldn't you have kept it a secret if you knew there was deformaties, and aborted the child earlier and tryed to have a normal one next time.

These opinions are of the writer and no-one else!!! ooooops excl *goes back to his time machine and sends himself back to the dark ages*

Steaks, I doubt if the parents had much choice about the media coverage... things like that are matters of (national) pride in medicine, unfortunately. I'm sure the parents like most just want their baby to be healthy and happy!

By the way, the article I read about him said he hurt when you touched either of his arms, which is why I went for cursed. It's probably why they took one off earlier than usual, too (they went for the top one in the end). And apparently he had two individual shoulder joint thingies on that side eek

I hope they'll give him all the help he needs to use his one left arm well!

offtopic Isn't he just so cute??? why do Asian babies look so much cuter than white ones? ubblove

The article I read on BBC said they're removing the lower arm closest to his chest, I couldn't find an "after" story. Has it happenned now?

there's a piccie of him with 2 arms and a big big bandage on smile just click on the pics, it's the 3rd one.

And yeah, it was the one closer to the chest... apparently it was constantly bent, and the other one worked just a bit better.

why would you abort the child? because it isn't perfect?
He had his surgery, he should be fine, maybe he'll be a obgyn or something later in life

i would say he is cursed only because if they had left the 3rd arm he would never have been accepted in society...
soon people will forget and it won't be either

Ok. Why do they have a feeding tube in her? Is she not feeding well?

And why does the Chinese government think that it's OK to totally usurp the privacy of this girl and her family and broadcast it to the world? What sort of hospital allows a media circus like that and all that chaos into a nusery? I would never stand for a single cameraman who might even ask a patient if it was OK if he had a photo of the patient (many patients take it as pressure to aquiesce).

*shudder* A picture is fine, but hide the face and don't do...THAT.

They're treating her like a circus freak.
