I've got an audition on Friday night at the new Liquid Nightclub here in Jersey as they are looking for Fire Dancers, and just wondered if anyone has any advice or pearls of wisdom they would like to share? I'm self taught and have been spinning for about three and a half years during that time I've done a few party performances and some street performance. But this will be my first time spinning in a club, so anyone any advice?
Please! biggrin

do a risk assessment, speak to the stage manager (if there is one) and make sure they know what's going on/what you need them to do for you.

and don't forget to smile when you're spinning! biggrin

As a DJ and promoter this chain is the partying antichrist to me. They move into a town and progressively take over with their various chains (See this site for a full list) until all the local privately owned bars and clubs are forced out of business. They now own every large venue in the town that I used to live in.

Luminar's ultimate goal is to replace the independant musically diverse party scene with culturally sanitised drink fuelled meat markets. They are the main culprits in the commercialisation of the club scene. It is Luminar who are responsible for the explosion of turgid pseudo dance and 'r&b' through their strict 'commercial only' music policy.
Hundreds of thousends of people in the UK now believe that the 'clubs' that Luminar present are genuine party places and that the people who frequent them are 'clubbers'. This is due to a lack of genuine alternatives as Luminar swallow up all of their competition.

Very soon all we will have are chain bars and clubs that all ook the same and play the same trite pop music. The different facades are only there to give you the impression of choice.

They are also the bringers of alcohol related crime. Nobody goes to thee places to listen to music. They go to drink and pull. This invariably leads to fighting whether inside the club or out.

Sorry about the rant.
I think the way that I feel about Luminar is very similar to the way that a lot of people feel about McDonalds or Starbucks.

I wish you luck if you choose to do the gig. Go with the advice above this post.

Having worked for Luminar in Manchester myself, I can agree with everything Seye has said above, but this is not the place to rant about firms like them.

For the performing, most important thing is to feel relaxed and comfortable with what you are doing and where you are doing it.
Check that the clubs public liability insurance stretches to cover fire performances (strong chance it won't). Make sure you have someone around at all times that knows how to deal with any situation that may arrise whilst performing with fire.
Get paid. Do not do something like this for a venue like that without payment. Discuss all these details with them before you agree to performing.
Above all else just smile and enjoy your spinning and don't worry if you screw up, it happens. Hope it goes well smile

Thanks for all the advice. thankx
I went for the audition did my performance and they liked it and I got the job. YAY biggrin
Seye I hear what your saying but in Jersey it's a little different. Before liquid arrived most of the Bars and clubs in the island were owned by the platinum club group which gave them a monopoly on the island and allowed them to do pretty much what they wanted as knowone had much choice of where to go. But now liquid has turned up it's spiced things up both companys are having to compete to draw in the crowds which means they are having to listen to what people want. Also it would be a bit hard for iether company to take over all the bars in the arear as Jersey has more bars per square mile than anywhere else in the world (we like are drink wink )
But thanks for all the advice biggrin weavesmiley

may be a bit late, but heres my two pence... be strong, if they want you they'll agree to your terms, my first promoter proper done me over. dont let it happen to you! ask to be paid prior to your performance (something i neglected to do, now im owed £90 from a person who has done a runner and havsnt been seen since!)
apart from that, give it your all an youll be good.
