Has anyone ever looked into speedstacking? I've a job promoting them this weekend in Hull and also Cleethorpes.

Basically its stacking "cups" up and down in different combinations of pyramids against a clock. At first I was sceptical about how fun it'd be but found it quite addictive.

Its got the same sort of benifits as juggling, hand eye, moter meconisms etc but no catching involved.
Apparently its going to be as big as Yo yo's were a while ago, but can you really imagine it becoming as big as juggling in the Uk?

saw some people doing this at bristol juggling convenition early one morning, looked suitibly insane, cant see it becoming as popular as yo yo was or juggling because of the table and cups you need dont seem that transportable... but fair play to the speed tackers smile ubbrollsmile

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

Well, I got the chance to try it a month or so ago, and it is definitely pretty fun. I do have some issues with it compared to other things though..

I'd agree that it's good for coordination and not any more mindless than learning to race as a sprinter, but one thing I like about yo-yos, poi, juggling is learning all kinds of different tricks, developing your own style, sharing techniques with others, etc.

It also seems a little bit close-knit for my comfort. Just in terms of all the equipment being from the same company, Emily Fox is the daughter of the inventor, the world-wide organization is linked with them, etc. I'm not saying that there's anything fishy, but just that it'd be nice if there was a bit more variety.

Another thing to consider as far as fast skill stuff goes is Rubik's cubes. I've actually seen some vids lately of them using cupstacking mats to help do the timing.

ohh i been thinking of speed stacking ofr a while now as a guy i know, robin gunney, was doing it at exeter juggling club. his best time is about 13.something seconds. whooha fast like!

But anyways, when i got in the other night i put the telebox on and saw a 10minute advert on one of these teleshopping channles with loads of kids playing it. The parents were soo happy they wern't playing computer games. It wasn't the offical speed stack set but it was a cheap copy. Funny thing about it is the world record is held by that american girl its about 7/8 seconds i think, but they just got a clip of a guy doing it, speed it up and said this is the same speed as the world record.

I can see it getting big in a way, but its not an out door sport. I know if i was still at school and it was a rainy day i woud love to play that against other people.
