I put tails on my homemade poi and since doing so I can't seem to learn any new moves and I can no longer do buzzsaw (my fav move!). Has anybody else had trouble when they've used tails or am I just having a bad week? I'm tempted to cut them off but they are so pretty! ubbidea

I first started with tail poi, they where my first set. I never had a problem with them getting tangled I just had a problem with not knowing any poi moves lol

Clubs are better than tails for polishing your form up a little.

Clubs do not translate well for me since I use finger loops and rely heavily on finger movements for control. Because the grip is so different for clubs (or because I don't know how to swing them correctly), they are almost useless for working out anything I would do with poi.

I used to use finger loops on my poi until I got too lazy to sew them on, clubs still helped a hell of a lot. They also use a fair bit of finger control to keep them spinning where you want them - I'd argue that they use more finger control than poi.

I reckon it's probably because you (like the majority of people I've seen pick up clubs after spinning poi) are used to the string being there - it acts as a flexible joint so that your hands can get away with making movements that'd send something rigid like a club into odd patterns.

Also, do you hold them between your first two fingers?

i meant the person doing the teaching using the tails bov smile

if i had meant they make learning easier i would have said "they are pretty damn useful for learning" or something wink

I thought that might have been what you meant, which is why I added this..

Not wanting to pimp out clubs too much, I find they're much better for demonstrating something too, because you can go much slower than you can with tails or any other poi.

Keep your tails, change out the string for some ball chain, and make a pair of sock poi for non-tail practice smile.

lol, I think everyones right, if you like wraps, socks are better, if you like butterfly type stuff the tails are kool and if you're a beginner or just learning new moves then just standard soft poi are best. smile

Oh, and don't copy me and use yo-yo strings! You think normal string is bad for tangles, you try using string that twists! tongue

I've never actually tried spinning with anything other than tails so I guess my opinion is pretty redundant here.
