Hello all.

I don't often have much to offer by the way of new or interesting ideas, but hopefully this will set a few cogs turning smile

'Stands' as I have come to call them are the result of accidents discovered when messing with releases- I'm sure many have inadvertently done them, but I thought I'd try and push them as a 'trick' in their own right.

SO- the idea is that you would pull off a stand (in this version at least) by spinning 1 poi right handclockwise (BF plane). Usually I would release this under an outstretched left arm around which it would circle and them return to be caught on the right hand side by the right hand.

Standing the poi means a different approach to the release, letting go later and giving the (probably best counterweighted) handle a flick. If you spin the head under the opposite arm and to the point where the head is at about 10-11 o clock, gently contact catch it on the back of the left hand whilst releasing and flicking the handle.

If done correctly you get a lazy stalled poi, standing on the back of your hand, slowly rotating on to be caught or moved further.

I can get close to a nice affect with my right hand relasing, but so far I have yet to take the principle further (for example doing the same thing on the legs?)

Ideas?

Do you conatct catch the head or the handle.

You have given me a lot of ideas anyway.
I now want to land the head on the back of my hand and catch the handle at 12 o'clock.... maybe that's what you mean....

You'll drive me mad I tell you.... smile

I live in a world of infinite possibilities.

Did you see me doing these at Falmouth? Been at them for quite a while now and like you found them by accident.

If you get your props nice Chut you can change the prop so you go from Prop to "Stand" to Prop on the same/other arm.

I like the name stand smile

You should see how long you can make them stand for. You can get a surprisingly long time if you start high and end low smile Or if you start low and then continue the circle up-across-down with your left hand it's a really nice looking move

There's discussion in here somewhere about these, I'll be damned if I can find it tho or remember the terms to search, I think it was Glass who was on about them.....

And remembering your poi.....use longer ones for exagerated effect smile hug

How random- I figured they were already known, just hadn't really seen them mentioned (but them I'm not terribly old skool smile)

I didn't see you playing with them at Fal, though I did have a bit of a play with them myself down there on Sunday in the pub beer garden. Oh well, something to try and collar you for at Play (are you going to have any time to you think, or are you going to be the shadow that you were at the last one- I know you were darned busy smile )

As for the length of my poi- yeah, I know what you're saying, but I'm getting into all sorts of contacty stuff and with a bit of effort they're working just fine- always been a bit of a short poi bod smile

Yep - do them antispin wink tongue

If I'm understanding the text right, I might have seen Dom doing something similar, they look pretty damned cool.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Tom, when you release a poi most of the time the handle rotates around the head yeah (more so with weighted handles) Now imagine that the head stayed perfectly still while the tail rotates around during the throw.

If the head was sat on the back of your hand while the tail rotated that'd be what Chut is on about smile

Bov...antispin isn't really any harder than normal tongue Which makes a nice change! ubblol

Chut....happy birthday!!! Did do anything fun?

It would be very, very nice if you could pull off a hand stand with the head, and then a stand on the other hand with the handle, keeping the poi spinning in the same direction the whole time.

"Take that, math!"

I've been attempting something similar recently although trying to "stand" the poi on my head. I've had varying degrees of sucess but i cant seem to get them consistant, seems to look pretty cool if u can pull it off tho, I'll have to have a go standing on my hands.. umm... the poi that is, not me ubblol

I can get it to stand on my shoulder from a BTB release, and on top of the head is by far the greatest, I think because of the trajectory it works better. It is a trick to get the handle to rotate like that, easier with weighted handles.

dont make peoples heads turn, give them whiplash.
