A problem!

My sister wanted to watch some movies but she needed some codecs so I suggested the Divx bundle, she went a bit mental and installed pretty much every single codec pack you could get...in the world....ever.

So I got back went on the computer and decided to erase some of these codecs which was just hogging up space really and I'm sure some of them were malicious dialers etc. But anyway i was deleting them and some I had to get deleted from th Add Remove prgrams Wizard, and stupidly I also went and erased the audio driver for the computer!!! its a buitl on audio on the motherboard etc and I can't find where to find the damn thing. i've been to the emachines website and they suggest for driver downloads etc so go to a different site that handles their software etc but on that site its not very clear at all.

Under 'Other devices' in my system device manager it has a sexy exclamation mark over the 'Multimedia Audio Controller' telling me it has no driver.

Any ideas, I searched computer forums which didnt really help.

Pweeeeeze, its my mums computer and I buggered it eek

Right,, first thing first and something you've probably already tried but...
Is it a Win 2k machine connected to the internet.

If so I'm sure when you go in the add new hardware bit and select add/update driver when its discovered the audio controller and asks you were it should look you've got floppy, cd, other location and internet update. Does that come up with any joy ?

System restore is normally a case of it reformatting the hd and starting again frown although yeah the drivers might be on the cd,, but i figured that'd been misplaced

right check here

I think the bit of software you want is the Intel® Chipset Software (All operating systems)

Hope that does the jobbie anyhow

Will, what you're really looking for is the motherboard's software. Open up the machine, look at the label on the motherboard e.g. Aopen AK74 etc.

Look for the latest software, reinstall it, and bob's your uncle.

Best to find the -manufacturer's site-, but if you really can't, try driverguide.com (user: drivers pw: all)

Good luck.

just hit up emachines site. www.emachines.com and look for the support/drivers/downloads link

actually https://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html
there it is.

put in model and such and it will take you to the downloads page. get the audio controller and there ya are. More than likely you just need the AC 97 driver (which you can get from intels site also). That is what emachines typically use. If that doesn't work for you get me the details and I can see if i can simply upload you the driver. I have like 98237481723954716571632094790234782734 emachine cds at work and have to do thsi kinda crap all day long.

I once learned every move that there was,
Every style, Every technique.
Then I woke up, and forgot it all,
So now I struggle to dream.
