Posted:Has the heat shrink insulation covers been used to cover staffs before. It comes in funky colours and can be pretty snug. Might be an easy way to cover a large area of staff in great colours. Friends have used it to cover mock lightsabres and its pretty durable so far
Its a bit like this..but without the lettering

Posted:Yep, heat shrink works well, Ive been using it on the staves that I manufacture for about the past 7 yrs or so without problems.... I also use it on the one piece fire staff designs that we make here at HOP central and sell in the HOP shop.....Excessive amount of flame on heat shrink and it will rip but used to hold binding etc rather than wrapping tape can make for a more professional looking product for sure.....A small gas burner is what I use to heat shrink it to the staves but a hair dryer etc will also work,......Mucking about to get the right thickness to suit the tubing for tightest fit is also worth while as heat shrink will only shrink a certain amount and it comes in different sizes....Heres some pics of the staves we have made over the years with heat shrink.

Posted:I was just looking up suppliers a few days ago. I wasnt planning on using it for decoration so much as an alternative to taping the ends of a grip (as Kombi mentioned) but some suppliers did have UV reactive and glow in the dark colors so I was gonna test some stuff out.

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.
We'll blaze a new trail,
and torch the rough patches.

UV and glow in the dark would be awesome.

Posted:compared to bicycle tubing they're much more slippery, so they'll suit palm spin movements but are noticeably harder to handle when wet. the stronger grip of bicycle tubing allows for better traction for contact.

so the best grip for the staff twirler reading this thread would depend on what tricks they would like their staff to be geared towards. for me, it's the unobtrusiveness of heat shrunk insulation that wins it for me.

meep.

Posted:they are much better than tape but it can, if held under the flame of a overdipped staff, sometimes come unstuck and slide off your grip.

Posted:Heat shrink tubing sounds like an option to grip pixies. Hmm. I think I'll have to research this further. Do you need specialised equipment to shrink it?
