Apologies if some of the details are incorrect but I'm not very tech savvy (and I'm drunk).

Posted:You can make tunnel. But it require to know more about your school network, traces(Start>Run>command>tracert or traceroute) and some portscans(nc, nmap) will be helpfull. Its probably just proxy or firewall that block on one maschine, but it can be router ACLs too.

Post here: trace, school web site, logging pages, outside IP (if you know), whatever accessable from outside and we can try it too smile

Anyhoo, it managed to bypass all the blockers and stuff, which was cool. I think MS word has some interweb capability, too.

You might be able to install something different, such as opera, firefox, or other browser onto a portable medium, like a flash disk, then run it off that. Or, if that don't work, and you want to break the rules, keep the installer on the flash disk and install, then surf.

they've blocked once already, i'm just lucky it came back.

and thanx everyone for the suggestions, sadly alot of them i've tried and the restrictions on the student log in prevent me from getting very far, and sadly i don't know to much about computers so my resources are very limited

Posted:Nothing works on some blocking programs. Our school used to have websense. We got passed that easy peasy. Course, HoP wasn't blocked for me back then. Now we've got this new software, SurfControl. Its nigh impossible to get passed without some uber-clever geekery, that is quite beyond me.

So now I wait till the weekend to surf HoP and all the rest of the stuff I'm not allowed on.

hi i was a school techie!

the filtering is there for the schools protection, maybemore than it is for yours

if you google image search for vixen

you get pics of foxes

add a single letter and you get pictures of lesbians!!!!!

now if little timmie goes home, and says today we where doing stuff about forests and josh found women having sex, this would cause hell maybenot for the kid, as he might have stumbled across something he didnt really inderstand, but for the school its a political nightmare!

the filters are there for a reason, to protect you and the school and teh teachers

they are also there to stop pop ups, asking you for contact details, like competitions, like WIN AN IPOD!, these couldbe used by some nasty people to find out personal details about you and then do nasty things!

they are also there to protect the school network, there is some very personal stuff on yoru schools network that people like me have gone to great length to protect, and kids endanger this for sereval reasons....

also bandwidth,if you ae in class playing games, and messing round on teh net, then you are using up tehschool bandwidth, and if the whole school does this, then the net starts to grind toa halt, and us techies get it in teh neck from teachers....

stop obsessing over the banned site, and go find something constructive to do.....

Posted:*raises hand* I agree that a lot of filters at school are necessary, but I reeeaaally wish the ones in the STAFFROOM didn't block all commercial/ humour/ chat sites. So many *expletive* times I've tried to find things that I can add to my lesson plans to make them more interesting for the kids, only to find I'm denied access. Echalk is blocked as a 'commercial sale site'. ECHALK?! ....and trying to get a video clip to work on the interactive whiteboards? Hell.

have you got espresso? its an interactive learning tol for kids, totaly webbased, and tey lap it up at all KS levels....

if you dont have it, you should talkto your LEA about getting it, its so worth it!

the filters on a site normally apply from two levels, a local proxy that the school updates with sites they ban, and then there is a LEA filters, and its nomally the LEA that bans things like google image search....

there is a hundred resons a site is blockd, if can be down to a word search on a page, for chat or something...

that can cause a site to be locked, or it can be for a huge array of reaosns, in teh end they are needed, and most places wont allow you to get round them

br>
this is one of teh schools i used to work for, the best one, i didnt make this site, but its based strongly on a large arry of the work i did for their site when i was working there, its packed FULL of links to other sites for you to try....

depends on what age range you are working to, as its a prmary school, but itmight help you find some stuff you can se?

Posted:hug2 for your efforts, but I'm teaching secondary school science. I'm managing, it's just anoying that I have to do a lot of work at home because of the filters that I personally feel should not be applied to computers that only staff have access to. Grr, snarl etc. How am I supposed to waste time on ebay? wink

I'm still training this year, so am only at this particular school until the beginning of June and am unlikely to be able to persuade them to subscribe to anything new. Doh!

hmmm, i'm pretty sure that even at the tender age of 12 when i started secondary school i wouldn'thave bee traumatised by seeing people peeing on eachother or whatever dirty stuff came up. i'd seen enough porn already to know what it was. kids are so mollycoddled imho. but that's a whole other discussion! lol.

No, everything works the same everywhere! All of your expereinces are identical to mine! Except mine are right and yours are wrong...

OK, fine, you win this round.

In my school, whenever a site comes up that's blocked there's always a place for an override code which, when entered, makes a little popup come up that makes you immune to being blocked as long as it's up.

You're also immune to magic and psychic attacks while it's up too but I've never had to use those.
