I hope this isn't a silly question..... I've been trying to learn the air wrap, yet I get the funny feeling I should be using chain poi or sock poi, rather than a measily thin polyester cord-with a tendancy to get tangled. Am I right or wrong??

It can be done with any type of poi, but sock poi are the easiest to learn it on.

there should be a video tutorial for this move added to the free lessons in the near future... Good things come to those who wait biggrin

either way...
strings are Real hard to learn tangles with.
definitely go for socks.. OR chains..
you'd probably find socks easier, imo, as chains have big smelly wicks on the end that can hurt when you get wrapped up hard in them and stuff.

mmm socks... ubblove

String cords are crap.. utter complete crap.
Chains need connectors, and sometimes other parts, which can be annoying.
Socks just need filler, they are otherwise self contained and very very fun.

Ive recently rediscovered air wraps. I figured out you can do them in corkscrewes (up and down) instead of the weave. Im now trying to do them from my right side then my left continously because i think it would look like a funky poi version of a MillsMess. Does anyone else do them in corks?

I can do them with any type of string, dog chain, and ball chain. The real trick is to speed up the upwards poi head ever so slightly, so it continues out of the tangle. Just ry tot increase the upwards poi head and it should start to work. It takes forever.

boo hiss! wink

"'Poi' is the Maori word for 'ball' on a cord"

call me a purist, but balls on strings are far and away my poi of choice.

having said that, i agree that this setup is not nearly as forgiving if your airwrap technique is a little sketchy...

horses/courses innit smile

I would have to agree with everyone with socks they are really much easier. hard trick to learn, try to turn so they tangle goes buzzsaw then exits on the other side of your body, hyperloop.

dont make peoples heads turn, give them whiplash.
