Hello!

and welcome to the Hop Hat thread!

this thread is for all you hat tips, tricks and silly jokes.

My three top tips are...

1) foot throws, point you toes! jobs a good un!

2) body rolls, always give it the mininum amount of push, or spin to do the roll, hats will move much slower than contact balls and bieng slower makes them eaisier to catch.

3) for the back of the neck roll, have the bottom of the hat (the bit you put your head in) face the auidence, its counter intuitive, but the brim rolls much beter over the shoulders, then fits back onto the arm on the other side.

So folks, whats your favriot hat tricks?

wot sort of hat is it yoni? i dont think hats are very easily fixable, even by hatters...

Ive got a trippleweight top hat thing... feels fairly indestructable, and should be for the amount I paid for it!

its a topper, not triple weight. i can still use it, i just feel the rim may come off if i use it too much, if it will help i can put a pic of it up somewhere

just remember that although hats dont have to be worn on the head, it can be difficult and rather odd looking to wear it on your elbow wink

I saw a Cirque du Soleil performance where a guy juggled hats by throwing them like frisbees so they would come back to him. Since they wouldn't come back exactly to him (and to keep them separate in the air), he threw them so they returned about five feet off to the side, so he ended up running around in a large circle with hats flying everywhere. He juggled at least five hats this way. It was pretty cool.

The Guide is definitive. Reality is frequently inaccurate.

new footcatch?

catch the hat vertically, on its brim, looks nice from a btb throw.

one day i will be flexible enough to raise the leg and have the hat roll up to the body.

I camne up with a nice trick last night tho its a bit hard.

throw the hat like youd do an over the shoulder throw with balls or clubs. but instead if catching infront the hat should land on your head, its cool cos its a blind catch.

another blind trick, cover your eyes with one hand, chop thew hat off your haed with the other and catch on the foot blind. Worked perfectly for one day, loads of times, and havent been able to do it since! ubblol

Really getting into this hatting, but not too great yet, just getting the basic tumbles and throws etc. I've been trying to get the roll across the shoulders from one arm to the other since I started, but not having much luck. I can pretty much do it, apart from actually catching the hat at the end. If anyone has any tips then I'd be grateful!

Plus if anyone knows of any other good videos of hats online, I'd be grateful. I'd particularly like to see some hat stuff. I'll keep searching myself, and if I find anything then I'll post it up.

Happy hatting!

I've got the foot catch, but I've not got the throw back onto my head yet. Pointing the toes really does make a difference, but I've only managed to catch it a few times, but its getting better.

I'd also like to get the roll back up, after you've rolled it down your back (hope this makes sense). I keep either not getting it high enough, or throwing it over my head.

yo, that roll up the back is one of the hardest moves in hat.

i got an ace trick last night, chop the hat off backwards and it lands blind on the heel of the foot.

just a throw to the heel is cool, cos you can have lots of fun trying to grab it again without falling over...

I got mine from beard, it's a good felt one, ideal for hat manipulation, you can find their website here - beard juggling supplies

You could also try googling for other juggling suppliers.

As you can see, they're pretty pricey at £60, (although I got mine for £40 through a juggling convention), so it's best to be pretty serious about buying one unless you've got loads of spare cash!

What part of Scotland are you in? there are lots of juggly things that go on all over the place.
