I'm a boy, and I don't care, I'm so proud I want to share.

I've just knitted some lovely little wick covers for my staff, so they won't get all damaged when I'm practicing. Yeah, they're only in grey wool, and yeah, they only took the morning to make the pair, but I don't care. I'm well happy.

It's like they're wearing sexy little booties.

I didn't have a pattern, I just made it up myself.

I just measured the size of my wicks by cutting off a piece of wool. I went from the middle of the top of the wick to about 1cm below for the length (one pice of wool), and then another piece was used to measure the size around the wick. The size around the wick I used to measure the number of stitches needed, and the length of the wick was the length of the knitting.

I have the smaller sized tube core wicks, so here's my little pattern made up just this morning.

I used 3.75mm needles
Cast on 28 stitches
row 1, knit whole row
row 2, purl whole row
Continue for to row 26, knitting even rows and purling odd ones (13 total rows of stocking stitch for those in the know)
row 27, yarn forward and knit two stitches together for the whole row (This adds little eye hole things, so you can thread ribbon or string through and tie them tight around the staff so they don't fall off)
row 28, purl row
row 29, knit row
row 30, knit row
cast off.
To finish, stitch from the top (the end with the eye holes) down one side to form a tube. Then, run the stitches along the bottom so that when you pull on the remaining wool, it all gathers together like a drawstring. Then, you just make it secure, and pop them on your wicks, maybe with some lovely ribbon through the eye holes.

Give it a try. Mine look great, and are dead easy to do. You can do whatever stitches you fancy (stocking, garter etc) for the main body.

Ooops

Row 30 should be purl, not knit.

I didn't realise who you are till I found this thread. (I also thought you were a girl, sorry!) I like knitting too, although I'm not very good at it.

Anyway, you'll have to show them off at juggling club!

Plus, it saves a fortune in socks, and did I mention how quick and easy they were to do.
