You've noticed how many newbies have joined recently, So is it me or is poi gradually getting more mainstream? also I keep seeing poi on tv here and there, plus the fact that my child's primary school is beginning classes for the circus arts, to promote healthy living and keeping active.

It looks like it may get bigger soon, and I'm worried it will escalate out of control, but it may, like all the other crazes, disappear quietly and we can continue living by the poi as we have always done.

Oh yeah this is chat so i will say....
....lol!

Always use "so's your face" and "only on Tuesdays" in as many conversations possible

Do you think I should make a new thread asking when does one stop being a n00b? Or would that annoy the hoppers?

Its when you stop annoying Cantus and learn to do a search before starting a new topc. wink

too practical. doesn't make fun of anyone gratuitously and philosophically. i have two answers. the first is reflexive, the second, just relative. both i think are the only ways to be "correct", though they could be worded differently:

"if you think you're not a newb, you're a newb".

"you're always a newb to anyone who's been spinning longer".

i'd imagine anyone who's been spinning 20+ years might still need to try not to laugh at your 1-5 scale. but for subtly making fun of people who make fun of other people, i give your thread de-railment two thumbs up! biggrin

Well I was thinking in terms of being a noob, schoolie, and an old school hopper, not so much a spinner. Being an active member of a forum for 5 years is quite an achievment!

Could this sudden percieved surge in interest be down to the sheer number of people going to Thailand these days. You here all the time how people first saw it on Koh Phi Phi beach or where-ever. Maybe they just don't want to let go of their holidays?

Schoolie Heffay (Heff-ay) reporting for duty. I think Heffay might be the Spainish equilivlent of Geoff and quite possibly Jeff. But I never took Spainish in highschool... so what do I know.

The mainstream thing. We did circus arts in grade school, I remembering juggling scarves and doing plates. no poi though. The closest thing I've seen around here is the occasional glow sticker, but they're from a solid glow background... rather than a freakish hybrid of glow and poi like myself angel i sprouted wings as a result.

Being a n00b is a mentality. I've seen people jump right into the forums like they owned it, and they were cool, others jump in and are... slightly less cool. Myself, I was scared to join in the community for a while, but I think I lost my n00b status when Doc Lightining first commented on me ^_^

Don't mind me, just passing through.

The Spanish word 'Jefe' (pronounced Heff-ay )

Meaning: Chief, or Boss.

Not a First Name, unfortunately, as far as I'm aware. smile

people people calm down lol - What I should have said was, as we all know, poi is good exercise for toning muscles, and coordination etc. I'm pleased that my kid's school has taken steps to introduce it to the kids and get them active early in life, but I doubt most of them will stick to it for long, sadly. The Highland Council is really pushing the healthy living scheme as far as it can go - like free toothpaste and brush, and a free nit comb. Classy eh?!

Really?

Minimal movements keep the angular momentum going, it's hardly muscle-toning...
