I am about to start my final major project, and i have decided to keep it simple and base it on the word COMFORT.

What are your TOP TEN things, small or big, that make you feel COMFORTABLE ?

Mine are in no particular order,

Family boyfriend and friends ubblove

A cup of tea ubblove

A warm shower or bath ubblove

A warm meal ubblove

Anything warm ubblove

Nice smells like lavender ubblove

not being in too much debt ubblove

A warm hug ubblove

Chocolate ubblove

Music ubblove

POI ! and HOP ubblove

Smiles and Laughter ubblove

Cocoa of Horlicks ubblove

A comfy chair ubblove

A comfy warm bed ubblove

Music ubblove

Sorry that was more than ten. Make it top 10-20 things ubblol

"Thank you people, I see a lot of people have similar comforts, and they are quite small things, but big in terms of the happinness they bring"

I was just wondering if we are in constant need of comfort, and whether we replace them with something else if we don't have them. For example if there is no tea bags left, would you top up your 'comf' (simian 2005) with chocolate?

I think this is the case with me, otherwise I feel empty and somethimes anxiouse

Oh I'd like to make clear the nature of this thread, any not make it come across as a game thread, I want to have a disscussion here about your ideas on comfort/s. But thats not to stop a list, just would like some more thaught put into your opinions and experiences smile

Most people would emmediatly have a very posotive feeling thinking about what comforts them, but I was thinking about how some feel like rewards, and some feel like a thing to numb some form of pain or dis comfort. Then I was wondering about the reward system of things like alcohol, and is it really a reward if your gradually melting your liver willingly? (I was reminded of this thaught when I heard the name of a drink called 'liver massage', er yum?)

As you can guess I dont really find comfot in drinking alcohol anymore

*comfort* implies not just things we like or that make us happy/excited, but things that calm/ease/relax us when we might otherwise have been unhappy/stressed... that help us feel'good in our skins'.

So mine are:

*being at home alone specially in the daytime when the light is so pretty

*my house rags (baggy saggy loose old shifts worn with no undies, preferably when alone!)

*spinning poi when I'm not trying to learn anything new

*chill music: eg jack johnson, lemon jelly, reggae

*getting back in my car when I've been out somewhere public

*swimming in my pool specially at night under the moon and stars

*being in my own bed, preferably alone

*taking my tea tray back to bed in the morning to have a read till I'm ready to deal with the world

* being connected to the internet particularly spending hours on HoP

*paying the bills and filing them away as 'done'

.....Can't juggle balls but I sure as hell can juggle details....

I used to have a pain killer addiction and it most definatly started out as a comfort. I needed the pain killers just to be able to sit up in bed. After a while it got to the stage where I needed them for other reasons than just killing pain.

I was watching a program the other day about self harmers and I got a jolt back to the days I took the pills. They were talking about cutting/burning themselves as being a release of a build up of pressure. When they couldn't cope they took comfort in harming themselves because it gave them something to concentrate on other than all the rest of what was going on.

I took comfort in getting hold of enough pills/cough linctus to numb myself. It was a distraction from the depression I was in. By the end there was no comfort in it at all. It was just a never ending cycle which stressed me out. I did, thankfully, managed to break the habit. I now know that unless it's to take physical pain away, I don't take them.

I also know some people with eating disorders that talk the same way about controlling food. They feel like everything else in their life is utterly out of control, but the amount of food they put into their bodies they can control and it comforts them to know that they haven't eaten. It makes them feel stronger and enpowered. In reality it's making them physically weaker, but they still find comfort in being able to take control of one thing in their life.
