MOST RECENT AT TOP

Filmed with: DV camera

Spinning for 2 years on/off (1 year seriously)

Props: staff (singles and doubles)

Edited: yes

Fire: no

I want feedback on my spinning: yes

I want feedback on technicalities of video making; yes

The first staff only vid I've made. Very sloppy planes in a lot of it, but I've been trying to add some character to my spinning: let me know what you think!

Lazy Contact Staff

Filmed with: digital camera

Spinning for 3 years-ish

Props: poi

Edited: not much

Fire: yes

I want feedback on my spinning: yes

I want feedback on technicalities of video making; no

personal notes:

the turning antispin same direction flowers suck, btb planes are well dodgy, as is split time butterfly turns with left hand, stalls look rubbish, timing comes and goes and not nearly enough movement:

on the other hand, some variation between 2-4petal flowers is quite nice, longarm pirouettes are pretty nice, and it was only the second time I'd played with fire in a long while (+ the second time I'd done spiral wraps) so not too bad considering

LazyAngel spinning in China

facebook vid from a mates camera phone quite entertaining commentary, quality not so bad for a phone

A result of Durbs' video challenge:

A brief documentary on the nature of poi

'Warm night, Lazy Fire' - recorded 9/6/06 this is footage from a couple of burns spliced together. No fancy angles or anything, just some footage that wasn't helped by autofocus. A bit of experimentation 'isolating' moves and with hand and arm positions at the end. Anyway I hope you like it, all feedback appreciated!

'Dirty sox and Lazy spinning pt1' - I finally got round to making a sock vid. Some of it I really like, some of it I quite like, but there's still some bits and pieces to tighten up. Visibility is a bit poor but I'm still searching for a decent location. Hope you enjoy!

FireLazy.avi available on request

20MB/ 5mins 48secs

happened to record this the other day, so I thought, why not post it anyway.

Nothing special in there, just a fire spin with lots of things to get nice and clean (especially timing)

Also featured:

me setting my arm on fire a little bit at the start (kinda distracted me from the pendulums a bit)

pretty much invisible attempts at cheese: the spiral wraps at the end all had fingers pointing at the camera.

and one or two random experimental body movements

Mac: was good to see you at the BJC. I'm hoping to get some more isolationy bits and pieces on the next vid, including 'the bhangra move' wink

The longarm pirouettes are nice, very nice I thought -- really controlled, I like how slow you do them. It seems like you lose the timing a bit going into the spiral wrap, but coming out it looks okay. Otherwise, from your notes, it seems like you have a good idea of areas to work on. Thanks for posting.

Nice one Guy. You have a definate style to your contact, i really like the hand tension you have, it makes each move look more deliberate.

Constructive criticism: dont grab the staff as quickly when exiting a move, there were a few times when you snatched for the staff when it would have exited cleanly anyway, it makes you look a little panicked.
Work on your steves, the movements you are doing with your other arm to emphasis the roll down your arm are really nice and will look even better if you tidy up your rolls.

cheers for the advice sandy smile I'm always panicking a bit with the old contact half the time, mostly caused by practising with steel tubes in China wink

I've been trying to get those steves a bit cleaner since, but I've still got a ways to go. Do you have any advice for moves I could work on to help transitions from one move to another?

Actually with the hand movements, I'm trying to develop them a bit now so that hopefully (if) I get the movements clean, I won't have to start from scratch putting them in afterwards

any advice on the doubles anyone, apart from 'less sh!t'? wink

simta: cheers man smile I agree with you on the doubles thing, was a bit worried about the saying 'a bad workman blames his tools'. Good to know it's not just me thinking that

Rellizate: Thanks smile the credits went a bit blurry in the compression process, red was the only colour I could find that really stood out against the background. Says something like:

That was cool. At 2:21 you do a backspin to head spin was that intentional? If not learn how to do it, its cool. Im impressed, definatly got yer own style that totally works, keep up the contact yo.
