I was thinking what is the plural for poi? Is it pois? I really hope not because I hate that word pois, its so ugly sounding isnt it. To me poi sounds like it could be plural itself, but who decides how things are pluraled anyway, has it allready been done?

That word is an abomination of the english language, the plural of fish is fish, how can anyone not know that? Whenwas the alst time you heard anyone saying 'a school of fishes'

bahaha. that's always been there. the plural of a singular fish is "fish", but the plural of a type of fish is "fishes". you can have "schools of fish" if they're the same type, or if it doesn't matter, but "schools of fishes" shows that you know they're of different types. i would imagine you can have flocks of various sheeps (if you know their breeds are different), and bags of different pois (assuming you keep your wicks and your glowsticks seperated).

also just cos people say it, doesn't make it grammatically correct?!

actually, it kind of does. welcome to prescriptive (versus proscriptive) linguistics. the theory is you actually learn more about what people say by listening to them than trying to correct them. correcting is more helpful for high school english teachers in the same way orbital models of electrons work well enough for students, but fall apart in anything useful.

Actually, you'll find it does. English is a living language and so if the majority of native speakers think that it works one way then that's how it works.

But that doesn't mean we have to like it.

there are others, not that i can think of at the moment though.
