This list represents what I consider 'base' contact movements. Most other moves are combinations of these moves, variations, or these movements transfered to a different plane. [indeed some of these movements are combinations of others, but they're interesting enough to be granted their own name.] These moves can be broken down into their component parts, but the way I present them here is as symmetrical (hopefully) movements. So for instance you can end a SNES with a vertical steve arm roll, but you'd break the symmetry of the SNES, so I don't present that here.

You may disagree with this list, like it not having a palmspin in it, but the palmspin I felt was too 'small' a move, both for a tutorial, and in ... well, maybe I should have.... oh well.

They are in rough order of difficulty and impressiveness. It all depends on how you learn thou.

Hand Wraps

Neck Wraps

Body Part Spins

Shoulder Wraps

Fishtails

Halo Roll

Conveyor Belt

Angel Roll

The Pivot

SNES

Halo 360

Steve

Jesus

Matrix

any additions? Suggestions?

i think spins should be a category including head, neck, palm, backhand, foot

what about propellers - the obvious hand, neck, foot (ask 2bags for a demo its quite entertaining) and the always elusive shoulder although kyle got quite close when i was in brizzy last, and crazy steve thumbs which result in a propeller type motion

and then theres the lynx i mean common thats definately worthy of a video

get it together woman tongue

spins are boring. They're have to be grouped all into one video... Yeah, That's an idea...

Video a tutorial for the lynx for me then? I can never be bothered to get around to learning it.

Good one meg,
I think you're getting better, a lot better.

this is the Best teaching resource for contact staff anywhere .
Whooop whooop three cheers for meg

and some clean planes too, - you want to be careful or you'll end up grumpy and anal like me smile

as you asked for
It might have helped a bit in future if you start each clip with the move that you are explaining, as I had not a clue what a "halo roll" or a conveyor belt was before loadingdown the clips.

Plus missing fundamental moves, uh-hum how about:
The first contact family I usually teach is all the "Nunchaku" wraps - Vertical shoulder wraps in wheel plane - over either shoulder starting with either hand catching in either hand in either directions. - some of these are academic, but most are good.

Thank youooooooooo biggrin
You're nice smile

How you see "key" moves?
As key moves I meen those that travese transitions between base contact movements.

'key' movements? I don't think there are any key transitions between contact moves. There are just ones you learn. None are really more important than others, and contact isn't really any more 'key' than spinning...

or maybe you mean like modes of movement? Like stepping, rolling, wrapping, spinning, stalling etc?

Yes, the modes, I think the are answer, why we cant put every two moves togeter. Its like take a move, bring anoter and glue the with right mode. smile

if you start to get all notationy and scientific on my ass, I will have to run away....

all you'd need are the points that the staff can contact on, on your body, the plane it's in, and the way it's contacting. Adn then you've have a notation of movements, with the transitions implied. You might need some way of writing how you enter and exit the movement, but otherwise... I don't think anything else is needed...

Notation = no. Video = yes!
