One day, two young students of a wise master decided to test their master and give him a lesson.

They captured a litlle bird and held it hidden in their hands. They decided to ask the master if the bird was dead or alive and should teh master say the bird is alive, they would squeeze it and kill it . Should he say it is dead they would release it and prove the master wrong as well...

off they went, looking forward to their clever trick.

Master, is the bird I am holding dead or alive ? they said

the master paused and looked into their eyes ; THE ANSWER IS IN YOUR HANDS he replied peacefully

I like to think of life as such. We are responsible beings and the choices we make with what life provides us with are what make us who we are..

thought you might like the story ? what do you think ?

The geek that I am... All I can think of is Schrodenger's Cat.

But I guess that's the same paradox. All possibilities exist until you make a decision/gather evidence/look in the box.

A nice outlook on life nonetheless.

that's very cool. i like it. and i also immediatly thought of schroedingers cat... (sp)
I can't explain the concept, other than it being a cat in a box with radioactivety, and it's a good parralel to the story you told... and... ah, y'know, lets have nyc explain it.

Hrmmm... Schrodenger's Cat as far as I remember is as follows.

Schrodenger (a theorical physicist I think) has a cat and puts it into a box with a cup of poison. Then closes the box. Being that he does not know if the cat has eaten the poison and has no way of knowing if the cat is alive or dead he asserts that there are now two speparate universes that exist. One in which the cat has eaten the poison and is dead, and one in which the cat is still alive. I'll be right back, I'm sure the internet will explain it better...

First of all: Spelling error on my behalf; Schrodinger's Cat:

"A cat is placed in a box, together with a radioactive atom. If the atom decays, a hammer kills the cat; if the atom doesn't decay, the cat lives. As the atom is considered to be in either state before the observer opens the box, the cat must be considered both simultaneously dead and alive"

-Erwin Schrodinger's Cat Paradox, 1935

For more info:
https://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/kids_space/scat.html&edu=high

***
So rephrasing my mistakes:
If you have no evidence that the cat is alive or dead, the cat can be simultaneously alive and dead. According to Mr. Schrodinger. He later used this theory to explain quantum mechanics and the fact that more than one answer can be correct for the same problem.

Did I explain that well? Sorry, I'm sick at home so don't have my teaching ties on today...

Wow Cass, that totally reminded me of a story I heard a long time ago when I was studying Bhuddism. I believe that it is known as the flower sermon or something like that, but it goes like so:

The Bhudda was growing old and he knew that his time on this earth was growing short. He decided to travel to all the monestaries to seek out the wisest of all the Bhikkus, and bodhisattvas. He travled for months and months untill two years had passed. Finally in a mountain top sanctuary he asked all of the wisest to gather with him and he would finally choose his successor.

So they all gatherd, all hoping that the great Bhudda would deam them wise and worthy enough to replace him. The Bhudda appeared and stood before them, just looking, and completely silent. He stood before them for hours and watched many become restless and annoyed.

After another few hours Bhudda, still absolutly silent held up a single flower. By this time everyone was secretly annoyed and many were disgusted at this.... exept for one young monk who saw the flower and smiled.

This is the flower sermon, and quite possibly the secret to life.

Jesus helps me trick people.
