When Im editing my thread post, where were quotas before,
the code of quote with [] jump into source code. Something
like so I allways delete it and
rewrite it with [].
I dont know if it affect the result, but may some small
source code change can fix it.

There's still a problem with the quote function.

For some reason, when IN REPLY MODE you click "Quote" it doesn't work... like this:
See? Broken!!
I think the problem is that the board doesn't understand the caps because when I simply edit the capital Q to a lower case q it works.

See? Fixed!

It's been like this for years, I keep forgetting to say something.

Note: When you hit "Quote" as to quote someone's previous post, it works fine. It's ONLY when you hit the blue Quote button (Under List End) as a "Reply".

Hope I explained that well.

I'd guess if you changed the capital Q to lowercase in whatever language that computers speak it should be fine.

There have been a few posts like this over the years but I think I finally nailed down the problem. OWDave had an issue with it too.

I also tend to write out the code- that's obviously not a good solution for those who don't understand the code though.

Surely its just about learning the format then typing it out appropriately to relate to what you want to say? No? umm

The HOP computer speaks PHP. And also your solution would work with no probs smile
I could find it, but im not an Admin. I suggest PMing Dom.

What's there to understand?

A better question would be "Why is there a button for something that doesn't work?"

Or, perhaps, "Why not just fix the button and then folks have a choice?"

Now, how do I nudge the mods/admins without being annoying? Maybe I should have started a new thread.

That's not a better question though confused

I genuinely am a bit confused what there is to understand. You(in general) read the code, see how to adapt it, post it, repeat over time, learn it, job done. umm

Though I suppose learning it with capital Q's would be a bit pointless as it wouldnt work.

Dave, can you clear up the confusion please? Theres a broom over there, I'll get the dustpan. smile

(btw - I like this thread.. for some reason)

for reasons unknown, maybe its because this whole "Q" thing is some sort of HOP magic...or maybe not.

*whispers* but i think it is.

I think a lot of people just press the button and expect it to work- when they get a gargbled quote the code is no longer visible and they may not realise that it could be anything to do with the code.

Even if they did, they may not realise that it's to do with one letter being capitalised.

(Has anyone contacted admin about this yet?)

I PMed Malcolm and referenced this thread.

We explained the problem well enough right?

The upper case [ Q u o t e ] and [ / Q u o t e] at the end of the quote should be changed to lower case [ q u o t e ] and [ / q u o t e ] in the "quote" function ON THE REPLY PAGE which you get to from here by hitting "reply". The "quote" button on this page works fine. smile

Right now it looks like this:
I entered this in the box after hitting 'Quote' from the reply page.
Got it - thanks gentlemen.

UBB Javascript was putting a Capital "Q" where it is only programmed to handle a lower case "q" in the "quote" function.

Should work fine now for everybody??

PS Please don't hold off sending things like this to us because "Malcolm is busy" - quite often they're little things that are easily fixed (since he is a guru with the code!) and if it's going to take too much time we can at least note it and come back later. And sometimes they're easy enough that I can fix them without bothering Malcolm - so please - feel free! Thanks. hug

quote: noddy ... /quote

Sorry, im remarkably confused now.

the way I see it, hop doesnt parse the code unless there is a [ quote] in there. Its doesnt matter if there isnt a

*edit - hop takes out the [/ quote] code if there is no entry code ( [ quote]), but when you edit your post, you can see it as "[ /quote]"** as well, as we have all seen, it just quotes everything in that post thereafter.

simply writing /quote wont close the quotes as the PHP/ubbcode parsing looks for "dem sqaaaaar braaaakits" to signify that there is something there for it to do.

[bold]giraffes[/bold] im not sure if that will work.. Ill just check.

Edit: Yeah, as I thought, HOP only parses the code if a) there are "dem sqaaaaar braaaakits" and b) there is a matching code reference/ set of instructions of what to do if a specific code is found, in the HOP coding.

Or am I just missing your point entirely? umm

Could we have a general "HoP board problem" thread, where we can address occurring issues?
