Where's the most amazing place you've poi'd. whether it be in a not too inspiring location but the atmosphere was special or on top of the statue of liberty or something....anyway,Nov 11th 2000, Ko Phan Gnan, full moon, outside the frog with James and his pyramid sand sculpting was pretty specialalso, Bombay harbour at the gateway to India with hundreds of Indian tourists gawping and then me accidently smacking a guy with the Poi because he walked up behind me asking for a picture with his beautiful wife and 800 children.......The Dingle Danfrom up north in Burnley

An island outlet right on the edge of the Horseshoe Fall of Niagara Falls. THe water was rushing over the edge on either side of me. I could jumped over the falls I was so close to the edge. It was amazing. The other was a railroad tressle over a local gorge that is 5 stories high. I had that funny tingling in the knees that heights sometimes give so it was interesting. I could see the bottom of the gorge through the slats I was standing on!I intend on doing some other odd ones in my travels though.------------------Pele Higher, higher burning fire...making music like a choir...

Oh, meow, good question. Spinning in Black Rock City in pretty special. My first spin at Burning Man springs to mind. Scott, Austin, Tobias, and Eliot on drums. Rich playing with staff. Just playing in our camp the the evening of our first full day there. That was really special. My all-time fave is late night at the old Freakshow gathering. Scaling the big rock formation in the middle of the cove with Temple and Moriah and standing on the edge spinning. Hearing the crashing waves of the Pacific in front of me with woosh of fire beside me, stars looking up and complete oblivion looking down. Mmmmmm.Diana

okay, i havent done it yet, but i plan to when i get good enough, and can use fire smile at my school, we have a big glass wall, and there is a small raised area with a flag pole in the middle, then beyond that is a small lake. you can see this all from inside the school, it is very beautiful. anyway, in the middle of the lake, there is a cement pillar or something, im not entirely sure what it is, but it sticks up about a foot out of the water, im not sure how big around it is, but it looks big enough to stand on w/o losing my footing. i will canoe out to it with a friend, have the friend take the canoe back (and then back out again to get me when im done). then i'll light up and poi their pants off smile bit plans for a loser like me eh?i wish i had a pic of it, but i couldnt find one, sorry.joshGod bless

For me it wasn't a bit of beautiful scenery that made my best poi sessions to date.1) on stage to an acid techno set chris liberator was playing at 'Anti-world' at the Drome, london. (bobrob, you left me a tough routine to follow).the crowd was huge. (600+)the choon were wicked and the atmosphere was perfect.2) the first time i lit up. It wasn't a good routine by anyones standards but the emotion of lighting for the first time. Here i manchester we dont light up regularly, only really for occasions. I had been practicing with u'v for around 3 months and didnt even feel 100% confident. but when someone handed me some lit poi after a small night we threw, i couldnt help myself. the drummers were cool. there were loads of other people doing fire (poi, staff, diablo juggling )it ruled. :P

Stuck on that one as I have poi'd in two awesome places. The first one at a rave on a beautiful summer evening playing with my practice poi under uv.The 2nd time was just last weekend. I swung my fire poi in the garden of an amazingly gorgeous Japanese temple, the temple monk is a friend and it was kind of him to trust us with fire around his temple (especially since another foreigner in the ken burned down his apt a month or so ago, there were a lot of jokes about us burning down a whole temple!) It really is amazing to do poi in such a fantastic setting

(i am kidding).

Yup Splat...while there are points in time where more water gushes over Niagara Falls than other times, the water seems to follow the natural shoot and not really envelope the landscape much. The islands re always there. Theyhave buildings on them that are on the edge of the falls and everything. Niagara Falls is extremely commercial, btw...looks like it's trying to be a mini-Las Vegas!!!The Niagara River at the base, on the other hand does swell, so while on the bankside in the Niagara Glen is one of my favorite places to be in general, I sometimes can't be there (like now) due to high waters.------------------Pele Higher, higher burning fire...making music like a choir...

Ahh, Peregrine, Lamington National Park, it holds the most beautiful examples of the brush box tree I will ever see. It's also a beautiful place to spin and poi - Mt Nardi and Mt Warning are pretty special places. Lennox Head Beach is also a fantastic place to play.Personally, I've just come back from Booderee National Park where I camped for a week and spun glowsticks to the rising full moon on Illuka Beach - very inspirational (and Peregrine - Booderee have bower birds as well!).My most inspirational spin ever though was my first one, in a friends backyard, near Gosford NSW, on an Australia Day weekened a few years ago. Spinning by a pool, overlooking a lake, watching the stars strech on for ever....having a revelatory experience with fire...

It wasn't so much the place as the occasion--I twirled fire at the wedding of an old friend. We've known each other for over 20 years. Another friend of equal vintage was DJing, and still other friends from back in the day were present. Having a chance to introduce my old friends to this new side of myself was great. I was nervous at first, but for my second set I could really just let go. The place itself was really nice--a courtyard next to a big house in Miami, covered with tropical plants. The space was outdoors but intimate.Of course, I'm still pretty new to this, so I'm sure I'll have some others.

(I am thinking i must know this Diana person since i know Rich and Temple as well)My fave's were out in black rock in 96, my boyfriend at the time, me, and about 100 drummers drumming up the sun.One 4th of july distracting from the local fireworks in a small town, on stage with a rock band for a crowd of about 10,000, on top of a bus in a quarry in the forest with some other fire friends, and perhaps with temple and slater at Ocean Beach in San Fran. Each performance is so neat and unique (on a cruise ship deck in the rain, in the New Orleans superdome with Cirque du'Soliel on the HELL stage!!)"The middle of the swamp at 4 blushoa.m.On the side of the bay bridge right before you get over the water during rush hour.....

There's definitely two categories here, for me at least:Occasion: seeing in the new year, 2001 with 3 good friends, three sets of poi, a staff and plenty of fuel. The company and the snow made it a great occasion.Location: The village green at the Big Green Gathering last year - it's (was) a really small friendly eco-warrior festival, held on an organic farm high up on Salisbury Plian in Wiltshire, with outrageous views by day and rich, ink-dense darkness at night. This was where I realized that i HAD to do this awesome fire thing, whatever it might be. So i braved up, asked a few questions, and was up and running with a burning corkscrew in 20 minutes. All the twirling I do has its roots in this, and I'm really looking forward to going again and maybe setting someone else up with the gift of fire.mikeyB
