Hey man,
All those questions you've asked have been asked a million times before. Do a search through the old threads to find out loads of info about all the different types of poi. Depends on what you want to do too, fire, uv, tails, glow etc...

In answer to your main question though RIDICULOUSLY GOOD FUN

Whatever happened to my green and pleasant land?

Guys guys, at least let mapleleaf get his/her first set of poi before you start bamboozling them with HoP's peculiar brand of lunacy ubblol

Mapleleaf - your best bet is to have some practice poi as well as some lights cos you'll need to do a lot of that. little mouse poi or short tails are good - or just make some yourself with cord and tennis balls. Once you've learnt a few basics (from the excellent lessons on HoP biggrin) get yourself some long socks with juggling balls in so you can move onto the more advanced moves.

The more you can meet up woth other HoPpers, the more you'll learn about moves and types of poi and get to try other people's so you know what works for you so get on to the Events bit and see where there's any meets near you

And get involved with the community cos you'll make lots of friends that way and they'll all help you - so go do an intro thread right now! But I warn you - you'll end up chatting more than learning if you're not very careful umm

enjoy biggrin weavesmiley

its true though, any type of manipulation (like poi, staff, juggling, uni) is a great way to get chicks interested, doesnt mean you dont have to try though

not that we're biased or anything tongue

light stuff is worth getting but get used to spinning first as it can cost a fair bit depending what you get also they tend to hurt or get damaged

practise with short tails or sock poi smile there are a few lessons on making cheap ones on here i think

other option for home made poi to practice with - roll up some newspaper into tight balls, wrap the end of a plastic bag around it & tie some string on - that's what we used to do at school (years ago) to make the maori type poi, works with practicing these moves as well smile

as far as fun goes, well it must be pretty obvious that everyone enjoys it or else they wouldn't be doing it. gets out energy, exhilerating, strengthens wrists & there's something about spinning a lit ball (or staff) around your body biggrin

Are you up for it?
wink;)

... but only if they see you doing it once or twice, or at a performance.

Anything more and they'll think you're obsessed.
