So, Im looking for some really sad songs... Really sad and dramatic. Looking especially for songs about losing a lover, preferably sung by a male. Language doesnt matter. Opera/theatrical type of music is sorta what Im shooting for but if ya got something good feel free to list it.

So, what are the songs that make you choke up?

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.
We'll blaze a new trail,
and torch the rough patches.

Easy Money - Nick Cave and the bad seeds

infact. All fifteen of nick cave and the bad seeds albums are very very sad.

You should check him out if you like that kind of music

Fair luna bright, fair luna moon
it shines at night but fades too soon
fair luna moon, fair luna bright
forever we dance
we dance under starlight

Let me get a little more speciffic... I think what Im looking for is real tragedy. Sorta epic even... Romeo and Juliet sad. A guy's lover dies and he doesnt know how he will go on. Etc.. I really want to be taken by it... Almost put in that place and feel the pain.

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.
We'll blaze a new trail,
and torch the rough patches.

'Lover, You Should've Come Over' by Jeff Buckley.

for a minute i thought this was one of those questions where you knew the answer and we had to guess, purely because that song is near enough EXACTLY what you want. Such a sad song, but it's uplifting in a really odd (like a release) way. A lot of people think that him singing about death and mortality so much was what brought him a lot of the way towrds his suicide. For the record, i'm not one of them, and have obsessed over the fine details of his music for years. Oh my god if there was ever a song to make you cry..........it does it for me!! The lyrics are as follows:

Looking out the door
I see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations
As their shoes fill up with water

And maybe I'm too young
To keep good love from going wrong
But tonight, you're on my mind so
you never know

Broken down and hungry for your love
With no way to feed it
Where are you tonight?
Child, you know how much I need it.
Too young to hold on
And too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away,
When he feels like he should be having his fun
Much too blind to see the damage he's done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that, really,
He has no-one...

So I'll wait for you... And I'll burn
Will I ever see your sweet return,
Oh, will I ever learn?
Oh, Lover, you should've come over
Cause it's not too late.

Lonely is the room the bed is made
The open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one
Who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep
That won't ever come
It's never over,
My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over, all my riches for her smiles
when I slept so soft against her...
It's never over,
All my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It's never over, she's the tear
That hangs inside my soul forever

Oh, but maybe I'm just too young to keep good love
From going wrong
Oh... lover you should've come over...

Yes, (I) feel too young to hold on
I'm much too old to break free and run
Too deaf, dumb, and blind
To see the damage I've done
Sweet lover, you should've come over
Oh, love I'm waiting for you
Lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late.

hallelujiah.....ditto.....my favourite song ever.

heard it for the first time when me and my ex split up after a rollercoaster of a 3 1/2 year relationship.....

....seemed so fitting, felt like i had written the words myself...still puts me in a reflective mood, although thankfully no longer holds sad memories.

'El Tango de Roxanne' from Moulin Rouge....it's not sad nor about a dead lover, it's about a prostitute, but it is very dramatic if that's what you're looking for. Have you checked out the sound track to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet? There's some very dramatic operatic stuff in there, along your kinda theme.

May we ask why you need it?

Practice as if your hair was on fire...

there's no mistake i smell that smell it's that time of year again i can taste the air clocks go back railway track
something blocks the line again and the train runs late for the first time pebble beach we're
underneath a pier just been painted redwhere i hear the news for the first time
and all the friends lay down the flowers sit on the banks and drink for hours talk of the way they saw him last
local boy in the photograph he'll always be twenty three yet the train runs on and on past the place they
found his clothing
stereophonics - local boy in the photograph - v.sad for me coz it was the same song i always used to play to hide the noise of being sick!
but its about death!

Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
