most fun I have had watching a film in ages.

https://serenitymovie.com.au/

Joss Whedon is the man.

For those that don't know, it is a Sci/fi / Western

My favourire Firefly quotes biggrin:

Wash: "Everything looks good from here... (beat...playing with plastic dinosaurs over his console) Yes. Yes, this is a fertile land, and we will thrive."

(as Stegosaurus) "We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... 'This Land'."

(as T-Rex) "I think we should call it...your grave!"

(Stegosaurus) "Ah, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"

(T-Rex) "Ha ha HA! Mine is an evil laugh...now die!"

Jayne: "Ten percent of nuthin' is...let me do the math here...nuthin' into nuthin'...carry the nuthin'..."

Alliance Commander: "You fought with Captain Reynolds in the war?"

Zoe: "Fought with a lot of people in the war."

Alliance Commander: "And your husband?"

Zoe: "Fight with him sometimes, too."

Wash: "Oh my god its grotesque! And ooh there's something in a jar too"

Simon: "This may come as a shock but I'm actually not very good at talking to girls"

Zoe: "Why? Is there someone y'are good at talking to?"

This film was one of the worst I've ever seen. It might have been ok if it had either had

1) Good acting
2) A story line that, written down, would take up more than a single rizla packet (a small one that is)
3) Some sort of character development
4) Consistency

all of the above would have been nice, but this was a film made in the last 10 years so that’s not going to happen, is it?

I wish I had falled asleep, but I wanted to stay up for the good bits. Then it ended.

shrug

I get what you mean about the film but....
The Series really was way better than the film if watched on its own... watch the series then the film makes for oh so much better viewing. But i should qualify it by saying thats what i did and was a fan of the series before the film came out.

I guess you could say the same about Chronicles of Riddick,, its Excellent,, but without Pitch Black first it could very well not be seen as such.

My thoughts anyhow

I wasn't really a huge fan of the film. I've seen it twice and thought it was ok, but I was hoping for a lot more after watching the series.
I thought the series was fantastic, but I suppose after watching it I was just underwhelmed by the film.

As to the series being cancelled, I'm going to be harsh here and say that Joss Whedon has to carry a fair part of the blame for that along with Fox.

True, Fox screwed it over (running it out of sequence and at a different time slot every week for example), but Joss was the one who sold it to Fox in the first place. I don't believe for a second that he had no idea how crap they are.
I also find it hard to believe that every other network turned him down before he went to Fox.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

The thing is Bovril he has had a great working relationship with them (the WB and FOX) before with Buffy and Angel - true they had to move Buffy over to UPN for series 6 & 7 due to budgetary reasons but at that point the only thing Joss is guilty of is having faith in the WB.

From what I remember, this was before it become in vogue to cancel a series in its first season if it was under performing... Either that or it was because of the influx of Sci-Fi shows that lead to the networks needing to cull the runts of the litter...

there anything ever that explains why the alliance were so eager to take care of Book after checking his card?
this is why we need more episodes!!

has anyone else seen the "DVD extras" bit too? just a couple of little documentaries. one of them goes on about the CGI shots and how he wanted them to be imperfect to give them a more realistic feel, claiming it hadn't been done befor, clearly he's never seen babylon 5 ubbrollsmile

What're you looking at?

From what I understand, they flat out told him that they didn't like the pilot episode and told him he'd have to make a new pilot.
I'd have taken that as a big hint that they weren't likely to keep the show running very long.
