ok. so i realize the word nigger encapsulates all that is wrong with the world. racism is evil. but steve martin's scene from the jerk was not racist.
this obviously stupid italian guy is talking to steve ( who was raised by poor african americans) about blacks moving on to a certain area. the italian guy calls them "niggers" and steve martin rips off his robe, screams "i AM a nigger!" and proceeds to go kung fu on them. the word in this context is actually a symbol of white folks jumping in to the battle and not putting up with racism.
i suppose i'm okay that people felt the need to censor on this site yet again. in fact i'm okay with people not liking racism. but please pick your fights appropriately. and yes i find this trend disturbing. why not ask people to clarify before jumping to conclusions and censoring the thread? you've missed out on a great piece of humor i believe
and if the thread was censored because i was making fun of honkys...
well...

Thanks newgabe, I was thinking something like that was the case in oz but not wanting to guess and I am unfamiliar with the culture....
The funny thing about megs post is that at this very same conference we had a european who didn't understand what the word caucasian meant and wound up writing in "other: european" on his form.... *chuckle*
I think the closest european comes to be defining is a hair texture....

er. totally ignoring rest of thread here, sorry.
i couldn't help but notice(as it was strenuously pointed out to me by a fairy) that the demographic at most juggling onventions in the UK is very much 99% white.
whats going on there?

the demographic of plenty of cities in the UK is nearly 99% white too, as has been pointed out to me recently...
only in the really big cities is there diversity it seems.... maybe even only london and birmingham, but i don't want to state that without knowing!

Fair points Ade, I’d certainly overlooked indigenous cultures, and the stigma attached to being black in Australia. Though, I think it’s better to talk about race/culture issues openly, rather make jokes down the pub.

Meg, I dont know what i said, it was really inspired, very rambling and I was very happy with it. But its gone forever now and I notice that no mods have been brave enough to enter into this thread and tell us why they deleted the thread instead of editing it, and why they did it under your name and not thier own...
hence im going to notify the mods to this post and make shure they know we are all asking.

well maybe it was the australia bashing, but if they put that thread back up I will personally explain all the "irony" and "sarcasm" I used. If you don't know, these are forms of "humour" which is a social interaction that aids group bonding.
as for black people not juggling, that's probably cos they're 99% cooler than white people, and jugglers are 99% less cool than everyone else, therefore only 0.001% of all black people will consider juggling, instead of something cool, like say breakdancing, or gangsta rap.

getting back to the topic: As a white female and a member of a genetic subclass I think racism can be a useful thing. I don't really want to have to not make generallised statements like "americans are fat isolationists". I don't like having to qualify everything with nice people are nice and some people aren't nice and america contains a few of both, (but most of those good and bad people are fat). I would rather just classify them by country, lump them all together and make blatent stereotypes of them. When I meet somebody I then forget all of these stereotypes because each person is individual, and they need individual stereotypes, like mutant-chested smurf boy. Modern life is difficult enough without having to talk politically correct bullshit.
