I know its early but I'm sooooo excited! So I felt the need to make a post rambling about some of the selection stuff.

First off no-one seemed to mention England loosing to Northern Ireland, which was just sad guys.... good for Northern Ireland, yes, they played well, but the British arn't getting it together (When do they ever in qualifyers tho? biggrin)

In SA Brazil and Argentina are of course qualified but the other (2/3) spots are still quite open... (rather open, whatever). I'm rooting for UY (still the smallest country to ever win a world cup! w00t!) but of course my preferences just don't count do they? tongue

Back to europe (the only other zone that matters tongue) Ukrane qualifying was a big surprise... cool tho... don't know anyone from there but if your about you should make yourself known! smile
CZE looks great, again. I'm pulling for them at least a little.
And croatia is looking decent. This is an impressive one.... my familys from thereabouts smile
austria, on the other hand, is sucking. which makes me sad.
Other than that I noted poland is doing pretty well (and britain still has to play them tongue)

Anyone else have anything to say?

biggrin

can't wait.... i really wish i could be in a country that actually televises the d*mn thing.....

nonononono! I don't really think we'll make the semifinals, but IF we make the semifinals and IF it's against Holland, then I'll be for Germany. smile

I got a Germany t-shirt for my birthday, so the team better not be too bad or I'll look silly ubblol

Oh, and ZeroG, the only thing I dislike about your plan is that Germany can't beat England on the penalties. beerchug nana

Australia played surprisingly well in the Confed Cup ... I say surprise cause I wonder where they find 11 player amongst all those surfer, swimmer, sailor, rugby, oz football, poi player, crocodile wrestlers and bondi lifeguards ...

Anyway, group F has just 1 seat left behind Brazil and Japan and Croatia are both strong, this will be an interesting fight and it could come down to number of goals deciding ...

it'll be more interesting if plenty of people join, and it should only take five minutes to set up a team smile

oooh the first two games were ohmygod fab.... i didn't actually watch the first one but six goals and three of them in the first 16 minutes, and everyone was telling me how great it was. (I was out doing some community service). I did watch the second one, which was absolutly amazing, go ecuador! Ecuador is TIED with germany for the moment, and with a liklihood of the actual game against germany decideing who goes first and who goes second in their group.

Now there is still time for poland to pull a comeback for the second place slot, but, watching them play today I'm not sure I was feeling it. Ecuador doesn't have a strong record, but they played well and their defense was pretty decent (obviously their offense was as well tongue). Anyway, tomorrow is the england game, which i probably won't be able to watch much of given the time, and then t&t vs sweden, which i don't care about and can't watch, and then argentina vs civ which i would kind of like to watch but still can't. *le sigh* I suppose you won't hear much from me until sunday then tongue

Hey, Kyri! Guess what! The Germany game was REALLY good! :P

Seriously, I was a bit too drunk to really follow the 2nd half, but the first 20 minutes were ace!!!

OK, so Germany has no defense and England has no offense.

And the US could be out before they're even in if they lose Monday.

Should I just pencil Brasil in now?

wink

Well, shall we go?

Well. If Germany ever face England it's going to be interesting... I mean, our offside trap usually fails, but then Crouch is offside a lot, so we might trick HIM where we couldn't trick Costa Rica... better practice those penalties (or just tell the defence not to try the offside trap again and we play Sweden instead who don't seem to be good in the offence).

Was quite pleased at the 4 goals though, some of them were really nice shots!

The sweden vs t&t game was actually quite interesting. I didn't realize it would be, they arn't really *that* well matched skill wise but for some reason that didn't seem to matter.... and they have an ace keeper, t&t does, lucky for them!

Groupa del muerte indeed.

That was definitely the best looking team to ever loose 3-0.

At least we can't get beaten by Iran again like in 1998.

Maybe it's for the best that nobody cares. wink

hahaha, yeah!

So, my rough predictions for final four are:

some subset of germany, england, ecuador, czech republic, croatia, and brasil. croatia and czech republic are mutually exclusive.

I hold an extremely vague possibility that brasil could be replaced by the Ukraine, or, that the Ukraine could do something really crazy and kick out france, and one of croatia/cze. I'm not finding myself fond of predicting england into here, but not totally against it.

If I had to pick four now, I wouldn't, because i havn't seen croatia play yet, but Brasil, Ecuador, Germany, and one of CZE/Croatia. But I havn't seen Ukraine play yet either.

*Mumbles*

And american channels did show mexico and england games, which only makes the whole thing weirder tongue
