ok so i am a fire virgin
and tonight i am going to loose my virginity
i have been scared off fire since an acciddent that happened in my house (my brother blew up my kitchen).
but i have plucked the courage and am very excited to now be able to do fire with out being scared.
any tips people, i'm sure you can all remember your first fire experience!

Wear a hat...save your hair...and don't wear white

yeah wear black, or instead of wearing a hat (i find it annoying) then get make sure your hair is wet....

I guess I should have been scared off fire after my entire house burnt down when I was 10 (I know what youre thinking but it wasnt me, i was not even in the country, I was in I Italy at that time,it wasnt me!)
not a wooly hat, and defenitly not the blue afro wig you wore last weekend. Hoody is good.Yeah, stick to black. if you get tangled, dont panic,just calmly throw your poi to the floor and take it from there. and remember that if you hit yourself it doesnt burn or even hurt, it will just leave a black mark (which is part of the fun coz if yoy dont hit yourself at least once you are not trying hard enough) and enjoy!

Laura DO NOT wet your hair, thats almost next to rule one of fire performing so mr 1337_poier i hope you dont go around adivisng people to that, if you wet your hair and spin fire with excessive heat the water can evaporate causing steam and can cause worse burns than the fire can, cover your hair in a beanie instead, also make sure you have someone to spot you, ready to help you if anything goes wrong, either have a fire extinguisher and/or fier blanket ready

to Will.Look at the video "The Backyard Spinners Guide to Fire Safety" and do a Durbs with Pele and Fire Safety. I never spin without at least a wet towel, and I almost always have a fire blanket ready.
There is a horror story about a lad who put wet clothes next to his skin and then put dry ones over the top. He very nearly steamed himself to death.
Tight weave cotton clothes and a natural fibre beanie every time.

Please take a look [Old link] at a topic I posted a while back about giving people advice on these boards.
Please only ever give advice to people if you are 100% sure what you are telling them to do is correct. That way if something were to go wrong and a person got injured you would not have it on your conscience that you were in some way responsible for it by giving out bad advice.

How long would the poi have to be wrapped around your head to create sufficiant quantities of steam to burn you?

Lol well hopefully a head wrap will never ahppen, and i would assume that it would burn your head straight away from the flames, the steam burn would happen aswell so neither are good, play it safe, wear a hat

I was just thinking that the poi would need to be in contact with wet hair for a while to create enough steam to burn , right?
If the poi was in contact with your head for that long and you were wearing a hat it would burn too. Wouldnt a hat be worse since it will burn and might stick to your hair?

it was uberly excellent and i had so much fun and had pics taken
i didnt wet my hair i had a hoody although when i was spinning my hoody fell off and i singed my hair lol
but i was so excited before i went to grab some that my hands were shaking but as soon as i started to spin i was fine
i had no idea how fun it was
