I hadn't even actually heard the term ginger haired used before I went there- in the US we are boring and say red. But what I missed was the apparently deragatory nature of it, and what a problem it can actually be. Talking to people, I've since learned that as a red-head in britain you expect to be abused about it all through school and in general even when you are out walking... this mystifies me, but after I started looking for it I found a lot of stories. So...

Brits, is it really that bad? Does it depend where you are?

Have any non brits seen it? Particuarly orange people might be called carrot top here, and are stereotyped to not like their hair, but... its certainly not much!

I know its essentially just another form of racism, and this one even has a gene seperating them from others, but.... how very strange! Any thoughts or explanations welcome...

used to wear glasses but don't anymore..... but two friends who are ginger and don't (i think) wear glasses unless they have sneaky contact lenses.... but... i have noticed that i squint a lot in the sun and someone mentioned that this might be because of having pale eyes which take in more light, so perhaps it is much easier to damage your eyes because of genetic reasons too.... don't know about the fireyness, for me it can go both ways, depends who you talk to.... in fact i've met a few people who seem to hold the opinion that i am both firey devilish and angelic simultaneously.... so really don't know on that count. However i am also a pisces, and they are supposed to be emotional, so maybe that's the reason, nej?

We are the music makers, We are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams;
We are the movers and shakers of the world for ever, it seems.

funny, recently i was on the mainland and was discussing local words with a guy from melbourne nad a guy from london. weasked if they knew what minger meant and the british dude was like "yeah orright, its from ginger, like you see a brid wiv orange hair...........". (he was a funny guy) but anyway, the guy from melbourne didnt have any idea what we were on about. In tassie minger isn't about the hair colour, its a description of girls that dress like tarts(who wear supre clothes) and are total air heads.

i just thought it was funny that 1. the term minger has skipped the mainland and come straight to the second smallest state and 2. that its meaning has changed totally.
