Crossover Points describe the point at which the Poi crosses from one side to the other when doing a figure8. For Example: If one would take a long exposure picture of someone doing a figure8 - the point of the intersection of the flames would be the crossover point.

A way of practicing could be to try and always hit the same leaf of a tree continuously while doing a figur8. Slower is easier . . . the challenge is to get full control over the path of your Poi and hit the same CP repeatedly and without effort or concentration.

Useful for: More or less everything. Its one of the core aspect of what I would consider "clean" spinning. E.g. in a "perfect" weave both Poi have the same CP or in a "perfect" fountain the CP of the Poi travel in a circle around you.
But definitely too much to list - best you finds out for yourself

Additional Concepts: Not only the CP of the Poi are important - the CP of your body (e.g. stepping through the circle, turning . .. ) is as much fun too

Question: What happens to the 2beat weave when you have one Poi with the CP at the top of the circle and the other Poi with the CP at the bottom of the circle?

Alles Gute

PS: A thread for geeks that is mentioning aspects of CPs can be found HERE

Although thoughts about these had popped into my head a few times over the last couple years spinning I never realised just how important and how much of an impact they have on spinning until your workshop.

For anyone who doesn't use these start, and if you're teaching newbies get them into it straight away, it'll give them a whole better starting ground for their spinning to evovle from.

Would one poi always have its CP on the bottom/top regardless of the side it's on or would they alternate bottom/top as they change side?

1) They cross the body simultaneously while staying in split time

2) The forehead of the poi manipulator becomes noticeably more crumpled

interesting thing about using top or bottom crossover points: It means that you can do a (wheel plane) 2 beat weave while standing with your nose just a few inches in front of a thin obstacle (like a lamppost).

Using the same principle, you can do split timed wall plane reels while standing in a doorway with your shoulders near the doorframe (or with foolhardy people standing really close on either side of you)

Doing either of those with one Poi with the CP at the top of the circle and the other Poi with the CP at the bottom of the circle would look rather cool. And be quite hard. ubbangel

I'm really jealous of this guy's CPs: weavesmiley

Question back: Can you change the CP from top to bottom within a figure8 or are they 2 consecutive moves?

Hint: Remember Arashis Johnson wink
