I cant find an answer to my newbie question.

The cobra II poi i own have two loops for your fingers, but im unsure on which way to use them.

Do you use them palm up, or palm down?

Sorry to anyone who has answered this question before, and thank you to anyone who answers it now.

goof question:
the answer is... either!
I hold palm up do the strin comes out of my knuckles
arashi holds palm down so the string comes out of his palm

Play around experiment, choose which feels better for you smile

If you hold them palm down you can hold the string between your thumb and your (umm whats its name...?) 'something' finger.

I find that gives to better control.

As Glass said - its a matter of what feels right for you smile

Well holding them palm up or down makes it easyer to spin in different directions, if you prefere to spin farward then its palm down, backward palm up. Its nice to get used to switching between the two so you can go from farward spinning to backward without having to stop your poi too much

"apparantly" acording tosome guy at WOMAD you use them palm up one looped over your pointing finger on over ur ring finger with your centeral finger with nothing on. If you are using more advanced poi this is the only way to do it. But i still my two forefingers palm up on my normal ribbon poi (no make, they were home made smile )

Does it really matter that much which fingers you hang your poi from?

Its whats comfortable for you that should matter so play around and see what feels best. I use my middle and index but thats only because its what felt natural for me.

I find Cobras are a pain in the arse if you don't tie up the tails...

I find holding the poi with my index and fourth finger the best for me. It gives me for control coz the middle finger kinda helps to hold them in place. I find the poi tend to come off my fingers and sometimes fly away into the distance if i hold them with the index and middle finger.
Palm up/down is confusing. To me it doesnt matter because once you start spinning you end up doing both...it just depends on whats more comfortable to start with.I think?

Same here and i hold my poi palm face up, but that's only because the person who got me into poi did palm up (never actually seen anyone palm down yet)

In general, I'll switch up my grip depending on what I'm doing and the size/lengths of the wicks I'll be spinning.

I've got 4 radically different sized wicks and maybe 3 different chain lengths that I use.

Anyone that says their is only one way of doing anything poi related is flat-out wrong.

Having different fuel mixtures, poi lengths, weights, chains, grips, and wicks all have different pros and cons. Going back to that old millitary saying "It depends on the situation and the terrain".
