just a quick post,
the evening post (nottinghams regional newspaper) ran the headline
'JUGGLING BREAD KNIVES GOT ME SACKED'
this guy was on a break in a back room at the ikea store where he works and juggled some reject bread knives to pass the time.
this was then captured on cctv and he was hauled over the coals and fired for it.
an ikea spokesperson said
'juggling 10 inch bread knives is not the norm'
so a word of warning
they are spying on you be, careful where and what you juggle.

my original signature was tooo long.
this one is shorter

wow. i have to say that was a bit daft. not all people understand the beauty of juggling objects that are potentially dangerous...

wish i could see it though. i have never seen someone juggle knives...

I have to admit I wouldn't be too pleased to see an employee juggling breadknives. Juggling balls, or sticks, or almost anything blunt, would be another story. But he could have cut himself or someone else, even severely, and even if his skills were good enough that there was little or no risk of that, store management couldn't take that risk, and probably would have lost their insurance if they had.

The fact that he was on break means he wasn't goofing off. But he was still engaging in "unsafe behavior" (from their not-unreasonable point of view) on store grounds.

Saying it's not the "norm" is just plain log-stupid, though.

Sure, it's silly. It is a risk that he took, but fair point, maybe he shouldn't have taken in at work.

But, is it really enough to sack someone?

thats awful!! I used to juggle at work constantly and people just grew to accept it

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

Thanks, star.

It looks like he wouldn't have got sacked if he'd just said sorry and stopped, but I guess he kicked up a fuss.

It all seems a bit too much for me, I wouldn't want to work for people who wouldn't let me juggle, but then I wouldn't want to work in many places!

lol, im not surprised he was sacked, theres a time and a place to juggle knives and at work (brake or no) is not the place, i wouldnt feel comfortable being in a place of wok if someone picked up knives and started juggeling them no matter how good they are at it. Right on bosses glad they sacked him. is he complaining about it or does he see what he did was wrong?

Oh and I think they put its not the norm because juggleing knives at work isnt usuall pactise, so it cant be the norm can it? eating lunch at work is the norm not this thats fore sure (unless you work in a circuss smile)
