Ok guys, I've done searches galore, I've had step by step help and I still haven't got anywhere near a fountain. I'm reading the instructions, but it just won't register with what I'm supposed to be doing! It's all got jumbled in my head as there's a lot of room in there ubblol

So. Can someone point me in the direction of a video with an example in it please? preferably one where you can see where the arms are going so I can see where I'm going wrong. Failing that, you could mail me a vid instead using my email address, which you'll find posted in the email address thread in the chat forum.

If I don't figure it out soon I really will cry!!! ubblol

More Fountain Fun

For isolations, I turn to my right or left side, and take the poi in between my arms, similar to buzzsaw start. Then I try to keep the poi inside, while I go up and over.

They’re lots of variation on the fountain, and adding a windmill is one of them. But, if you go into the windmill first, you are probably doing a three beat weave. In club swinging, the fountain is a follow move with the over-under-added, rather than a weave per se. At the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter, but it’s useful to know the difference.

Pic 2 pages 2 (Fig 18.3). I start those circles much lower, and have wrist on wrist as I go up for the top three circles. Sure add the windmill by going from the circles in-front to circles behind, then stretch up for an overhead circle. You can also do a circle between the legs.

In Fig 18.4 all the circles are in-front, so the top circles are in-front of the head.

ok i've read the whole of this and looked at the mediacircus link in slow motion (frame by frame) but when i try to do it it gets stuck crossing over. so far i get left over right, left under right and then they get stuck whereas they're sposed to keep going - i can see it workin on the mediacircus thing but it won't click in my head.

i see it goes under-over but i guess im not twisting right..i think its the direction of the poi im getting wrong...

any hints?

thanx - this move looks awesome and can get my on my way to flowing smile

Can you do a forwards weave, a backwards weave and the turns between them (both ways)?

A fountain is essentially just turning from forwards weave to backwards and then back again as soon as possible, but moving low for the first turn and then reaching up high for the turn back.

So, after the left over right, left under right part, you then uncross and recross your arms exactly the same as you'd do for a backwards weave, then turn back towards a forwards weave again.

Obviously reverse everything in there if you're doing it t'other way around (backwards weave to forwards weave while low, forwards to backwards while high).

I hope that helps, let me know if it doesn't, I'll try a different way of describing it.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

ye i can do the weaves forward+reverse and turns - i think its the way that im turning my body at the cross bit that confuses me.

i dont see how you can move to the reverse weave without turning - which way do the pois swing?

also i cant get the crossing and uncrossing bit without the pois turning in the opposite direction like a vertical figure 8 type thing...if that makes sense

hmm try explaining every cm of movement reaally slowly - maybe then my brain will click!

Thank you so much for your help - i'm not going to give up!

Ah, you only turn your torso, not your legs.
So, for instance, you'd be turning your torso..
- to the left for the forwards part
- in line with your feet for the low turn (like standing normally)
- to the right for the backwards part
- back in line with your feet again for the high turn

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. When do the poi actually change direction?

I'll see if I can knock up a sequence of pictures to show what I mean about the movements - they're sometimes better than videos (plus I don't have a video camera wink )

im gonna go whack myself trying outside now - will let you know how i get on

Fountain

- As defined by Omnimodus and A.Jillings-CS

- It is serie of four cross-over moves,

making six circles figure.

Has two halves:

- Lower fountain & Upper fountain

It meens : TWO TURNs

Example:

( Weave -> Weave ) & (Weave -> Weave)

- The first part is Weave turn ,

with two wheel plane carries.

The upper part is single Weave turn too,

Without hip reels, but hands up.

IMO Fountain is more a name to describe a type of compound circle, like a flower.

Take any pattern, fountain it, ie move your hands round in a giant circle whilst keeping the pattern the same.

The standard is a 2 or 3 beat weave fountain
buzzsaw fountain
butterfly fountain
then you got your antispin fountains if the giant circle goes opposite direction to the pattern circles
and atomic fountains and so on.

Erm... the windmill for a start - there isn't one in a fountain, the poi never go behind your head.
The video clip that stone posted may well help with the number of circles, it's got them labelled pretty well.

Unfortunately, it's really, really hard to try to explain much more, since I don't really know what you're doing without being able to see it.
Are you going to Play? It'd be a hell of a lot easier to explain in person.

If not, where in wales are you? I'm sure we could find someone who could show you.

Try to pass from left to right, just going back with
your weave but not from low front, but upper front
side by putting your hands up.

It's got two bits behind the shoulders, but no windmill parts behind the head.
When the poi are moving past your head, your hands are in front of you.

Yep - the media circus clip has 6 circles for each clup.

Circle 1 (with the red club), starts the pattern off with a shoulder circle on the right.

It might take a while to dig through fully, but have a read through Lesson 18 of Anna Jillings' Modern Club Swinging and Pole Spinning book, it goes into a fair bit of detail, and also shows half fountains.

Actually, that whole book is very good (the index is here.

o no - wait i am doing it right - when u go from the right circle to the low one in front of you - you change from anticlockwise to clockwise

i think im getting it - just need to practice now

will tell you when i've completely got it

thanks for all of your help!

p.s. im taking it that there is 1 circle behind the shoulder on each shoulder - and that from the poiers point of view the circles are going anticlockwise-clockwise-anticlockwise etc.

UPDATED: is there a knack to getting from the low bit to the over the shoulder bit as i keep whacking my head and the poi are out of control!...

UPDATED...AGAIN: ooo ooo ooo i can do that bit now - its getting back to the beginning thats the trouble - i have to bend a lot to get them to go the right way!

yay i can do it!!!

wooooooooo

am i right in thinking a fountain is just a forward weave to a backward weave on the same side. so moving in a circle weaving? if so i just did it, seems too easy though??!

geeza, if I'm reading what you're saying correctly, then yes that's all it is. It really is that easy. You can play with accelerating the speed of the poi as the forward weave is coming down, then reverse weave it back up slowly ( no windmill in this move, right? good ) smile You can also play with looking up into this move, if your a head postures kind of guy. Soon you'll figure out that you can turn this pattern too, which is quite a bit easier than turning a flower.

thanks stout. i just did the fountain thing then continued it on the other side (a fountain of 8?) adding a windmill to the top is quite good fun aswell.

im finally becoming more fluid i think and linking moves together. like giant windills to hand wrap to a wrap on arm to butterfly..... etc. getting more and more fun. also managed a behind the back beat alternating, to turn that into a weave IS going to annoy me! managed the btt butterfly sort of though smile

I have a question... Even after reading I tried to understand and still quite didn't get it. But I think I'm doing a Fountain.

I do 3bt weave to low-reverse... Go from reverse to high normal (where I do kind of a 4beat movement to let it make a circle in front of me, and then pass it on to the forward 3bt.

Not using any windmill.
